Hi, Mac OS X from version 10.0 to 10.5 r all Unix operating systems. They use the Darwin kernel which is based on freeBSD. So OS X is actually freeBSD with the Aqua interface and some modifications made by Apple. FreeBSD is a branch of Unix and Linux is another branch of Unix so that is why there is a resemblance. In OS X though many of Unix original features and styles of operating have been removed so that it becomes easier to use. I hope I helped.
Good Luck!
