He doesn't have accidents in the house (not since he was a small pup). The kennel has a plastic tray that I clean out, but I'm not sure if he still smells the pee and thinks its okay. I know dogs aren't supposed to want to pee in their kennel, so this is very strange. I have two older dogs who have never had this problem. He is a very well behaved boy, this is very unlike him. Ever since 6 months old he has been able to go an 8-hour shift without going outside without issue. I have tried letting himn out a lunch and now he will even pee after 3 hours. Please help!

I'm aware of the species. I spend a lot of time training with my dogs and everyone who meets them tells me how amazed they are at their good behavior. Potty training was pretty easy with my boy and I continue to praise them outside to this day. I am waiting for a call back from the vet, but I'm not sure how I could train a dog not to pee when I'm not home.

Since this is a new behavior I would defiantely set up a vet appointment and get an urinalysis done.

maybe your dog has an infection or something may be bothering him. my dad has a 3 yr old lab/golden retriever mixed and she never went in her kennel. then one day after she was 2 yrs old he came home to find pee all over after working an 9 hour shift. this happened for almost a week then he took her to the vet, she had an infection in her bladder. after some meds she was a lot better. give the vet a call.

It's a dog. If he's doing something you don't want him to do, you have to train him to do the right thing. Take him out of the kennel on a regular basis, and train him to pee where you want him to. Just remember that you must not punish the dog for peeing in the kennel. He obviously doesn't know that you consider it to be wrong. Take him to pee where you want him to go, and praise or reward him when he does the right thing.

It could be a UTI, a bladder infection. Since this is new behavior, I really think you need to take your boy to the vet. Good luck.

First, have him checked out to rule out a UTI. If there's no health reason, could he be drinking extra water?

For instance, when it gets cold, my two rat terriers will ball up somewhere; which makes them hot; which leads to them drinking extra water' which leads to accidents...you get it.

Watch to see if your boy is drinking more water than usual and then see if you need to limit the amount he drinks, only after you've ruled out any possible illness.

I would first rule out medical. Take him to the vets and have a urinalysis done on him. Rule out medical first. If its not medical, than its behavioral
