She is 8 years old and small for her age. She is not overweight- she is actually underweight. Sugar also makes her hyperactive, moody, out of control, obnoxious, and downright rude. She has a normal diet that isn't high in sugar but the little bit that she gets make her act this way. Yesterday she actually saw a man near our backyard but her sisters swear they saw no-one. Still she insists and was terrified of this man.

We didn't tell her she was hallucinating we are just pretty sure men with glowing red eyesaren't around and we had Grampa check the perimeter and assured her she would be safe. I am just worried it is something more serious than she had a piece of See's candy and was hyper.

Like I said she doesn't get sugar that often at all because of how she acts but in the past a tiny piece of candy like that would not have affected her like this. She is not on any sort of medication.

It might not be sugar. Please don't take this the wrong way but it could be a sign of a mental issue, or she was bored. OR she saw a man that her sister did not. Perhaps sugar doesn't work well for her so it made her edgy when she saw him and she got scared.

First, if sugar makes her "hyperactive, moody, out of control, obnoxious, and downright rude", don't give her sugar! Some children are more sensitive to it than others.

Second, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt about what she saw. Just because nobody else saw him, doesn't mean he wasn't there. If she's frightened, you should be reassuring her that you'll keep her safe, not insisting that she was hallucinating.

If a persons blood sugar gets too high or too low, it can cause hallicanations. You may want to have her blood sugar checked. And just keeping her from sweets isn't enough, she may need meds, that will be critical to her adult health. I;d have her checked for diabeties.

she may be having an allergic reaction. sounds crazy, i know, but when people have an intolerance to things it can have different effects on you. or, maybe she needs her blood sugar tested. children with type 1 diabetes are sometimes thin, not overweight. I think a trip to the doctor is in order, just in case.

ADHD meds can cause hallucinations. Is she taking them?

Stop giving her sugar---that one is easy.
