To allow them to run your household and eventually teaching them that they are better than everyone else. Ex: you see girls on television that say "that's because I'm a Princess and I get whatever I want!"....I would be so embarrassed if that was my child. You must teach children to respect others in order to respect yourself as a person.

I believe you cannot spoil a child with too much love and affection. Most children who act spoiled, actually lack this from their parents.
Giving them too many material things without them having to earn them in some way, will make them take things for granted too much.
Children need to learn to help others, starting with jobs in the home. They can earn pocket money that way and will start to appreciate that nothing comes for free!
It is a good idea also to encourage activities, preferably whole family activities, which don't involve spending money, or at least not much.
A family game in the park, a trip to the beach, a walk in a woods can be just as fun for children as playing computer games, and much better for them!
Hope that helps.

Trying to be their best friend, instead of a parent. That is the best way, because you think they can do no wrong.
Save being their best friend when they are older, and let it come from good parenting.

To not make them take responsibility for their actions. To make excuses for their behavior and covering for them when they make mistakes.
