It's only rude if it's inappropriate. A good belly-laugh is fun to be around, but not if it disturbs people who aren't involved. Some people are just loud and crass in public and that is rude.

To answer what I THOUGHT you were asking, I think the use of text-messaging spelling is very, very rude if used anywhere except on a cell phone. I can only assume that the person is semi-literate, thinks he/she is cute or funny, or has the mistaken idea that I think this type of communication is witty and trendy. If I see an lol or OMG in a YA question or answer, I assume the person is a teenage idiot.

How else do you laugh?? Is it even possible to laugh without opening your mouth???

I don't think it's rude at all. A genuine laugh is a wonderful thing to share!! Why else is Santa Claus's HO HO HO so celebrated?

no.. it isnt rude... well.. unless you have food in your mouth that like, spews on people. lol
