I don't think women want to "fix" things - its men that are the problem solvers, its in their make up.
I think that a woman would fall for a troubled man because he satisfies two of her inherent desires.
He has the body, looks and characteristics of a capable man but also, being troubled, brings out her maternal instincts.
So she gets to be protected whilst she also get to nurture.

It definitely takes a certain kind of woman to fall for men like that. These women are usually more independent and giving and feel that they could be the one to save these men. However, that being said, there are a ton of women how there who want to be taken care of and would not want a man who could not even take care of himself.

Maybe when they are troubled women mistake it for dangerous. Some women like a man who is a little dangerous. I'm not one who falls into that category, though.

Because we are supposed to be mothers, take care of someone, and "fix" their life.
And well, now, I guess you could blame all that caring for troubled men on the whole emo " culture"..?
Now people think there's an excuse to be " troubled" and that it'd fine

cause most women think they can HELP or CHANGE a man and they want to feel good about it when the succeed. However, IF they are successful then they find that he is not the man the knew and loved before.

they can trigger a lots of feeling inside them
excitement
challenge
sexual desires
mystery
adventure
romance
guilt
so they can feel themselves and their nature that the society,family ,religion,laws denies
