...........supposedly promotes atheism eg. Golden Compass.

Why the the double standard ?

Is it fair that a certain group feels that only they and they alone have the right to promote their beliefs.......

.........and if an attempt is made to air an opposing belief it should be banned.

What direction are we heading in with such thinking and reaction ?

Frightening really.

For the record I quite enjoyed Narnia and am also looking forward to seeing Golden Compass.

It's just a work of fiction - I'm a Christian and am not in an uproar or trying to ban anything. My husband and I are planning on seeing the film.

I agree with you. I believe in the freedom of the press, the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion that we have here in the USA, and I think that movies of all kinds should be allowed to be shown. I do not know whether Golden Compass is really anti-God or not, but the producer and company who created this movie has as much right as any other to produce and promote their movie. And I have no fear that God is going to be somehow injured by a movie. Our God can take care of himself. If Golden Compass is really evil, then it will be a good opportunity to spawn discussions of its faults or lies or whatever that Christians are objecting about. If it is not evil, but is just a movie that people are becoming unduly inflamed about, then it will do no harm at all.

I have been criticized by fellow Christians on this site for not denouncing the things that they consider to be evil, as if there is some reward for those who make the most stink about evil things. I don't recall Jesus spending much time doing that. He cleared the temple, true, but that would be tantamount to throwing out all the preachers who are using the faithful for lining their own pockets and puffing up their egos, not pronouncing damnation upon sinners.

Would this be a bad time to point out that, since both films were made, obviously it is ok?

Look, I don't go along with the Christians who are protesting the movie, but they have every right to do so. I would like to point out that the protests are taking the form of indignant letters to the editor and calls for boycotts. No death threats, no rioting, no burning the theaters down. They're expressing their opinions as you're expressing yours, and nobody gets hurt. This is a good thing.

easily, i think of the two are o.ok. it is the media it somewhat is attempting to evade this question and that they do no longer seem to be liberal, they are company. i'm with Christopher Hitchens in this subject count. All faith is a objective that merits criticism and the suitable to unfastened speech ability that each physique faith is a objective for artists to make relaxing of. it is the percentmentality of the corporate media it somewhat is asserting that we are bigots if we make relaxing of religion. Fox is barely one occasion of this. final time I appeared we had the 1st exchange nevertheless. Political cartooning is a factor of this unfastened speech exchange. anybody rioting over yet another u . s .'s unfastened speech regulations have alot to benefit approximately freedom and are backward. anybody complaining and protesting approximately an artist making a "Piss Christ" image is on an identical component because of the fact the muslim rioters. they have forgotten that we are residing in a democracy with unfastened speech. end gazing t.v information because of the fact it rots your strategies. BTW, you do comprehend that maximum liberals are Christians in this u . s . do no longer you? nicely, you already realize it now.

Heres the thing. There is more Christians then there are Atheists, so it may seem like a big up roar when a anti-Christian movie comes about, simply because there is more Christians.

~~~~~~~~~RIGHT ANSWER~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
there is more to the golden compass than you know. movie like the lord of the rings and Narnia promote Christan. but the golden compass attacks it. that movie is very negative, the uthor( IT was a book first) intended purpose was to attack god. the author hates god, he made this movie out of hate. the message is hidden through symbols, metaphors, indirect refences, etc.
christens HATE harry potter but they don't try to get it removed like this movie. also dont just associate the people trying to get this movie banded as Christians. many religions are upset about this movie, especially the catholics
Please tell me you're not an atheist. I'll say to you what I have said to theists asking the reverse.
They're showing the movie so the point is moot. Both movies can be shown and people are free to object to and protest either or even both if they like. Yay freedom.
Umm what is the question? Both movies are already made both are already being shown so what's the problem? Christians or other religious don't have to watch that slock if they don't want to.
