If they really mean this. they wouldn't spend so much time in this category. If I didn't want political views "shoved down my throat" I certianly wouldn't spend much time in the politics category. Of course they have the right to be here, but doesn't this make sense?

I agree with you, to an extent. This is a forum for people who have an interest in religion, and these people will range from religious fanatics all the way through to sceptics and cynics. But there is always a huge bulk of ill informed, irrelevant answers that provide no insight whatsoever. I have no problem with people providing me with an answer that goes hand in hand with their religious beliefs. But I DESPISE when I see a genuine, theological question that requires a bit of thought being bombarded with "Because God says so" answers. They're not helpful. When I ask a question I want someone's opinion, not mere evidence that they can read a Bible. I can read a Bible too. Don't get me wrong though. I am equally outraged by atheists who seem to trawl through every question on here saying "God's not real, religion is evil".

Wow. Rant over. :)

I'm a Christian, and I don't hate atheists. You have to realize that in almost any kind of forum, when you present one belief, you will usually be confronted with the opposing belief. I'm a conservative voter, and if I am in a classroom, I will be confronted with liberal politics. I don't need to be offended by that. Or you could look at it this way: If your house was burning down, and you were asleep in bed, and your neighbor saw the fire but didn't tell you because he didn't want to offend you or upset you, he'd be a pretty rotten friend. As Christians, we believe in a literal understanding of the Bible, which says that anyone who doesn't accept the forgiveness God is offering through Jesus, is destined for eternal punishment. Although some Christians, to their shame, become obnoxious and arrogant in sharing their faith, others of us talk to people like you not for personal profit but simply out of a neighborly concern for your welfare. You might find it interesting to know that in modern America, those of us who are Christians tend to feel the same way you do- marginalized, disliked, ridiculed. Society treats faith as a crutch or a fantasy. We often feel discriminated against. It is much easier to be quiet and not draw attention than it is to actually speak up and be recognized as a Christian.

i agree. but did you stop to consider many questions are bunched together when you first log into Y!A? regardless of category? also, some people are refering to the whole shoving down the throat thing as a general statement. all too often people try to preach to those who have made it known they either don't want to hear it, or don't believe in it. it wouldn't be entirely unlike strapping you into a giant high chair and trying to feed you something rancid and bitter. you don't want it, you can't stomach it, but they are trying to make you swollow every bite of it anyway.

I don't try to shove anything down anyones throat.I just turn the word of God loose and
pray that the Holy Spirit will plant it in the heart
of unbelievers.

Not at all. I come here because I'm interested in the dynamics and history of religions, not to be preached to. Just like I go to the mall to shop, not to have random people come up and preach to me, which has happened quite a few times! Sharing your personal views or beliefs is one thing, trying to win me over by assaulting me with your antiquated and insulting views is quite another!

Most of the time they are talking about in general life, not in this category.

That is right, and I am the first person to defend them. The other thing I do is defend the rights of people who choose to be religious, it is their choice, but NO ONE has the right to force that religion on others, no matter how how they interpret their book.

This is the Religion "&" Spirutality category. It is not the "God's Word" category. And not all religions embrace God.

It doesn't make sense to you.....but if that's how they feel who's to say they're wrong to come here?

I listen to a talk radio station that I disagree with completely...I listen because it's interesting to see what they think and why they think that way.

To me it's keeping on top of things.
