No, even if he supported him through the year, he can't claim him since he's not the father.

I see you have a couple of totally wrong answers that say if he supported him for over half the year, he can - that was true up to 2004 but changed then.

Only if the child is living with him. To claim a child the child must reside at the home of the person.

As your son is your "Qualifying Child" and not his, he can not claim him, even if you do not file.

If he pays child support or supports him six months out of the year it is tax deductible up to a certain amount.

do you want him to? as someone said, if he provides at least 50% of the child's care, and noone else is legally claiming the child, it would be OK.
