The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. Because Mormons believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and consider Him to be the way to salvation, they are clearly a Christian denomination. It is true that they are not an orthodox denomination (they are neither Protestant, Catholic, nor Eastern Orthodox), because they don't accept the post-New Testament creeds, but their Christ-centered theology clearly qualifies them for the Christian label.
Most objective scholars agree that Mormons are Christian. Consider this quote from an academic book entitled “Anthology of World Scriptures” by Robert E. Van Voorst.
“…the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints…see themselves as Christian, and most experts in comparative religions would view this labeling as basically correct. That they…accept the Christian Bible as their first cannon is a good indicator of this. Moreover, “outsiders” to [Christianity], such as Buddhists, would almost certainly recognize them as belonging to the stream of Christian tradition.”
Likewise, a recent poll showed that the majority of Americans believe that Mormons are Christians.
You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.
Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:
1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.
Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

Ick, you've had some really horrible and totally wrong answers so far. I have reported them. I am completely offended at the suggestion that we (I) believe God had sex with Mary. Please check your facts first, people.
Like you, we believe in Jesus and our saviour, and we beleive in the Bible. Drizzt says we don't believe Jesus is God, but the Son of God. She's right in a sense in that we believe He is a separate individual from God the Father, but we do believe that He is God - specifically Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament, through whom the world was created. We believe that H died so that we could be saved from our sin if we accept and follow Him.
As well as the Bible we accept the Book of Mormon as scripture. This is the religious record of the ancient peoples who lived on the American continent and recorded their history, including Christ's visit to them.
We also believe that God hasn't finished speaking to His people (all of us) and so we believe in the gift of prophecy, and follow a living prophet through whom God guides us.
** EDIT **
The person above me (Blessed3) is talking even more nonsense. I have been a member for 14 years, and have been through the Temple (there are no "ranks"), and I can tell you that the missionaries tell you everything before you are baptised. The only thing she said that was true is that Jesus and Satan are brothers - and all Christians believe that. (Who is Jesus' father? God. Who created satan, and is thus his father? God. QED. We are all God's children too, so Jesus and satan are our brothers.)

We believe that Jesus Christ lived, died for our sins and rose in his own body in three days. We believe all mankind is saved by the atonement of Jesus Christ. There are three levels of heaven. We believe Joseph Smith translated plates left for thousands of years that is the Book of Mormon.
Things we don't believe some posters have posted.
We believe Jesus was born of a virgin. Mary and our Heavenly Father didn't have sex to produce Jesus.
Jesus and Satan are brothers. Physically no...Satan will never have a body. We are sprit brothers and sisters of our Heavenly Father and not by any sexual relations but by the power of God the father. We have existed for eternity as intelligences, then spirits and now in the physical realm.

Mormonism is a cult. They do not believe in the Trinity. They believe that men and women existed as pre-existing souls and that in order to provide bodies for these souls to inhabit, they are encouraged to have many chlildren.
This was one reason that the early Mormon church supported polygamy, to supposedly create more bodies for these souls. Of course its no surprise that the men always seemed to want younger and younger wives. The Mormons make a big deal about saying that they now forbid polygamy.
However, if one checks out the history of their church you will see they were pretty much forced into a corner by the government so they had to abandon the encouragement of polygamy.
The Mormons believe in baptism of the dead and that marriages last for eternity. This is contrary to the Bible. They believe their bogus Mormon books are authoritative over the Bible. They also believe their head leader is a prophet of God, and that what he says is over the Bible.
Mormons believe in three levels of heaven, and that only Mormons in good standing can get to the highest level. The Mormons believe that they can progess in heaven to a point where they are also gods.
Mormons believe that their god had actual physical relations to create Jesus, that Jesus was not conceived by the Holy Spirit.
The Mormon church is very controlling, requiring much service and missionary service. Mormons are required to wear special underwear that they consider to be sacred

Basically, they accept the old and new testaments. But they also believe Jesus visited North America as well as the Middle East. They claim that this visit produced yet another testament, called the Book of Mormon.
Joseph Smith is the dude who claimed to have found this.

You have gotten some very thorough answers so far. I'd just like to add that the Mormon Church is very deceptive. What "Drizzt Prince of the Universe" told you was their official statement of faith that they show to everyone there is a lot that you can only find out by joining the LDS church (Which I don't recommend) and working up through its ranks to become a "Temple" mormon, or by talking to to someone who has left the mormon church after working their way up the ranks.
They believe that Jesus and Satan were brothers. They believe that people can become gods. They believe that Satan tempted Adam and Eve because God told him to, and that what Satan really wanted was to force Adam and Eve to serve God. They teach that people with black / brown skin look that way because they bear the mark of Cain, that is why until very recently blacks were seated in the rear of the church only, and I am talking as recently as the late 70s, I am not talking about back during the time "before we knew better" (LOL, like we ever REALLY thought that was right). They also believe that the only way a woman can EVER enter heaven is if her husband invites her to join him.
They have lots of other beliefs that conflict with Scripture... I could go on and on.

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
3. We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul--We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
those are the basics beliefs of our Church. We believe Jesus is our Savior and redeemer, just like any other Christian. WE do not believe He is God though. He is the Son of God. Joseph Smith received the Gold Plates from God and translated them into the Book of Mormon. It tells the story of an ancient people that came from Jerusalem to the Americas, and lived here.

Mormons are just another business. They dress up in business suits, talk a lot of jibberish from another made up fairy tale, act all clean and innocent while committing dirty "sins", pretend they are better by wearing their protective undergarments, while even discriminating who goes into heaven by creating different kingdoms to which you will either be or not meet Heavenly Father. You see those squeaky clean missionaries running around on their bikes trying to indoctrinate more victims with their faux warmth, smiles and concern while rolling off lines in many languages as they seek to get more tithing from all over the world to roll into Salt Lake's Church office building. They are told by their prophet to pump out as many children as possible so that the Mormon faith will never face extinction. I could go on but I'd rather not

As you could locate there are some those that take exhilaration in spreading lies approximately Mormons. The call of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. "Mormon" is a nickname merely. they're Christians. They do believe the Bible is the be attentive to God. The do believe that Christ is the only skill of salvation from sin and from demise. indexed right here are some issues that differentiate them from different Christian communities. they believe that once Christ's demise, at last all the apostles and leaders have been killed and that Christ's church disappeared from the earth as Christ himself had prophesied in the Bible. in the 1800's God the daddy and Jesus Christ known to Joseph Smith. He grow to benefit that not one of the church homes have been real, yet grow to be at last reported as to be a prophet of God and grow to be urged to restoration Christ's church to the earth. He grow to be additionally guided to an historical checklist made by making use of prophets who lived in the Americas. He grow to be given the capacity to translate this checklist. we've this, The e book of Mormon, and study it to be scripture like the Bible. the two compliment one yet another and supply us expertise. while the church grow to be restored, there grow to be as quickly as lower back a prophet of God on earth and 12 apostles and there has been considering the fact that that element. right this moment, the prophet is Thomas S. We inspire all of us to detect our teachings and then pray to God the daddy and ask him in the event that they're real or in the event that they're fake. wish that enables.
