If you want to impress your Navy recruiter you should memorize the Navy Enlistment Oath. Here it is:

US NAVY OATH OF ENLISTMENT

I, Top Gun, in lieu of going to prison, swear to sign away 4 years of my life to the UNITED STATES NAVY, because I want to hang out with Marines without actually having to BE one of them, because I thought the Air Force was too "corporate," because I didn't want to actually live in dirt like the Army, and because I thought, "Hey, I like to swim...why not?" I promise to wear clothes that went out of style in 1976 and to have my name stenciled on the butt of every pair of pants I own. I understand that I will be mistaken for the Good Humor Man during summer and for Nazi Wafflen SS during the winter. I will strive to use a different language than the rest of the English speaking world, using words like "deck, bulkhead, cover, gee dunk, scuttlebutt, scuttle and head," when I really mean "floor, wall, hat, candy, water fountain, hole in wall and toilet." I will take great pride in the fact that all Navy acronyms, rank, and insignia, and everything else for that matter, are completely different from the other services and make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I will muster, whatever that is, at 0700 every morning unless I am buddy-buddy with the Chief, in which case I will show up around 0930. I vow to hone my coffee cup handling skills to the point that I can stand up in a kayak being tossed around in a typhoon, and still not spill a drop. I consent to being promoted and subsequently busted at least twice per fiscal year. I realize that, once selected for Chief, I am required to submit myself to the sick, and quite possibly illegal, whims of my newfound "colleagues."
So Help Me Neptune!

You can indeed join the Navy at 24. There is no better way to see a lot of things that you would not be able to see, by using your own money. If you need a college education, you can get a degree, while you are in the service, or after you get out. You must be tough enough to go through basic and advanced training, but you can do it. Also you could possibly find an interesting field, to work in, while you are in the Navy. Also don't forget, you could retire after 20 years and still be young enough to go to work for an additional retirement. I am a disabled veteran, but if I had it to do, I would do it all over again. I was in the Army. I attended 2 years of law school while I was on Active Duty. Go for it Girl.

24 is not too old for the Navy. Go ahead and enlist if that's what you want to do.. Whoever said that it would be stupid to enlist IS stupid. My husband joined the AF at 27 and it was the best decision he ever made. You need to do what you want to do. Don't listen to the "downers". The military is a great opportunity to do something worthwhile and learn a skill for after you get out.

Don't get your degree from an online school, pretty much all of them are jokes and money pits. Register at a local community college, you can still take online classes there for a fraction of the cost while getting a respectable AA degree.

Enlist. You are way under the maximum permissible age limit for first enlistment.

why not? make sure its really something you want to do first. once youre in... youre in. but being single and no kids is good. its not too late. i know people a good amount older who joined. i joined when i was 21. one problem i had is that i was more mature than most at my rank, but the ones in charge continued to treat me like a child.

if you really want to join, now is the time.

If you want to enlist because you want to serve your country, great. But don't use it as a last resort. If you truly want to do it, then by all means go for it.

I suggest you apply as a machinist mate in the metal shop. They fabricate spare parts for the ship. It pays well after you leave the Navy too.
