you can not play upconverted original dvds on toshiba hd dvd with the component cable yet i can play my very good copys upconverted.is this not just pushing people to buy counterfiets rather than originals.i use these cables for a projector and it is impossible to use hdmi as the projector needs to be 10meters away for the throw distance and digital signal breaks up over 5m does anyone have solution for this or upscale hack thanks in advance

i use all my av devices for my regular tv and regular tv is occupying the hdmi and i use component for projector

Well you CAN use HDMI (or DVI) at that distance ... it's just expensive ($134.50 @ 50'). See Bluejeancables.com (link) and read about their Belden Bonded Pair HDMI cable (which has been used out to 125')

You could also consider moving your A/V system to the back of the room. I have my components on bracket mounted shelves at the back of the room and the projector shelf mounted (inverted) on a high shelf. Sure the speaker wires need to get to the front, but that's less expensive than HDMI cables. I run them in Wiremold cable channels along the baseboards to hide them.

BTW, I suspect the reason you can play copies with upconversion and not originals is because the copy software strips out the HDCP token. And you are right it encourages copying.

Bluejeans will sell you a 30 ft HDMI cable for about $87. They claim they have tested these cables to 120 feet.
