By the way, I'm flying in from Mexico, and I don't have a driver's license. I'm asking if what's more comfortable? What's faster? What's more expensive? Bus or train? Thanks.

Flights between LAX and San Francisco are cheaper than what you'd spend on ground transportation and with all your connections, you'd be there in a fraction of the time. Don't bother with any of that. Just buy a plane ticket. Southwest Airlines has them for around $40 one way with advance purchase.

i would do probably amtrak from Los Angeles to Suisun. You will need to take a cab or bus from LAX to the Los Angeles Union Station.

From there you have some options. You can take the coastal route up through santa barbara and San Luis Obispo. and will require a combination of buses and trains.

You could also go up the san joaquin valley doing the same thing via bakersfield and sacramento. either way it is an all day trip that will cost around $60 give or take.

With Greyhound you can only get as close as Vallejo, which is about a 20 min drive by car/cab/bus.

Paris Hilton is right. This idea is simply ridiculous. You don't get to a suburb of San Francisco by flying into Los Angeles. The best option is to fly from any of the following Mexican cities directly into San Francisco:

Cancún, Guadalajara, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Los Cabos, Mazatlan, Mexico City, Morelia, and Puerto Vallarta.

But since you didn't plan it that way, what you need to do now is catch a connecting flight from LAX to SFO. It's far cheaper and faster to use a discount airline like Southwest or Virgin America than either Greyhound or Amtrak.

From SFO, you simply take the subway (BART) to El Cerrito Del Norte station. Then you board Vallejo Transit bus #80/85 for Fairfield.

Whatever you do, avoid Greyhound, their service is terrible and there are much better choices! I would suggest two alternatives. The First step either way from LAX is to take the Union Station Flyaway bus from the airport to Downtown LA Union Station. From there your choices for transportation up to the Bay Area are two fold; Try using either Megabus which is a new and really good low cost express bus service that has a direct route from Union Station to Oakland for about $25 or less and can be booked at www.megabus.com From Oakland to Fairfield is an easy transit trip. Just use BART rail to El Cerrito station and catch a Baylink #91 or #92 bus from there to Fairfield. your other option from Union Station is to take an Amtrak San Joaquin corridor bus/rail thruway service which will take you to Oakland for about $40 where again you would take BART to El Cerrito and the Baylink bus to Fairfield as mentioned above. One final option would be to take an Airport Bus Of Bakersfield bus from LAX to Bakersfield and catch Amtrak rail to Oakland from there. This would save a bit of time by avoiding downtown LA but would also cost a bit more as the LAX Bakersfield bus fare is about $25 alone. I'll list links below. Good Luck!

I would suggest (first see if change your flight plan for your airline to SFO (or even Sacramento)instead of lax else you will be travel for a very long time
otherwise
you can take airport bus of Bakersfield to the Amtrak depot
then take Amtrak to Sacramento then another Amtrak bus
to your destination
note you might have spend the night in bakerfiled
according to amtrak there is only 1 train a day that will
connet to the fairfield bus in sacramento

When you arrive at LAX, go outside to the Green sign. There is a bus called the "Flyaway to Union Station" It cost $4.00 and from Union Station take the train (Amtrak). If you prefer the bus, so outside to the Orange sign and take a shuttle, SuperShuttle or Prime Time Shuttle to the Greyhound Bus depot. Both train and bus and located in downtown Los Angeles, Take whichever you prefer.

if you don't want to fly in to Oakland or Sacramento then take the greyhound. the train will take months to get there. you could probably take the bus to Oakland and then transfer to a bus headed north towards Vallejo and Sacramento.

Cab is out of the question
it would be about 9 hrs.

Try greyhound - they might go from near airport to airport.

hiena--with all due respect what you propose is just ridiculous, time wasting and just as expensive...Your at LAX already fly to SF...SF is like 700 miles away....This state ain't Delaware..
