YES! My goodness I hate that so much. If they are going to call you, they should pick a time when they can talk, uninterrupted. It also amazes me that parents don't teach their kids to not yell, scream, interrupt, etc, while they are on the phone. The kids yell, the parent responds, answers their questions, and I'm left on the dang phone to listen to it all. How about, "I'm on the phone, I'll help you when I'm off the phone" and then stop having convos.
If it's adults talking to eachother, that's just dumb. Doesn't anyone know not to interrupt phone calls? If someone starts talking to me when I'm on the phone, I make hand gestures, like - shhh, go away, I'm on the phone!
What I do iif someone is talking to someone else while on the phone with me, is say, "Sounds like you're busy, I'd better let you go" and leave it at that.

YES! I have a best friend of many years and every time I talk to her the kids are at her feet yelling and screaming about something. Next thing I know, she has thrown the phone down and is in the middle of chaos. I have hung up a few times and luckily she is very understanding. I just don't put up with that anymore. If you can't put the "just a minute" finger up or tell someone that you would appreciate it if they would wait until the phone call is over, then don't talk on the phone!

That drives me nuts, it rates right up there on the Rude-o-meter with those that go to lunch with you or out shopping, and spend the whole time on their cell phone talking to someone else!

For those that call, and can't maintain a conversation, I simply explain I have to go, call me back later if they are free. For those that yack on their cells while out with ya, I've found that pointing out someone else doing it, and how rude it is, typically stops them from doing it as well.

My alltime favorite bad phone etiquette is when you are visiting someone, and they spend the time on the phone, after the first 5 minutes, I leave, politely explaining I have errands to run, and perhaps we can hangout again when they aren't so busy.

My coach does that! But ti's with her kids. Our convos end up being an hour each time and it's really annoying. I just sit here holding onto the phone. What I normally do is say, Danielle, you sound like you're busy and I've got some stuff to catch up on, can we talk at a better time? That' usually helps.

If it is someone I have a smart-a$$ relationship with, i'll just hang up the phone and let them call me back. They get the hint.
If it is a girlfriend who might be offended if I hung up on her, I talk over the screaming kids, etc to tell her to just call me back when she has time, and I hang up.

Yeah, it's pretty rude and gets on my nerves every time! I can see if you called them, but if they called you then they should have been in a position to pay attention to the conversation!

Yes, that's very annoying!!! It was making me crazy just to read what you wrote telling us about it....hang up the next time it happens and then when they call you back - ask if they are ready to actually talk to YOU?

SOOOO annoying. Especially to talk on the phone with people who have kids. I say, ok I'm gonna let you go call me later!

For sure --that has to be one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. It is extremely irritating. I just want to hang up the phone or tell them to call back when there won't be so many interruptions.
