We should form a peaceful movement to prove to everyone that faith is the main problem with theistic religion. It is faith that attempts to justify belief and devotion without any understanding. Without understanding, an individual is far more likely to form untrue beliefs for an undeniably ridiculous reason(s), lacking any valid argument (ie, with factual or sensible support). Without a valid argument, it is hard to progress in society, not only in academic subjects, but also in being able to live together. Disagreements that can't be resolved because they have no valid arguments lead to hate, and hate to war.
However, without faith, people would be able to look at their beliefs seriously, and form valid arguments for believing so. With valid arguments, people can more easily exchange ideas in an intellectual manner, without irrationality or redundancy, and far less anger. There would be less hate and less war, and no one would be irrationally afraid of new ideas. Any thoughts?

Note that faith can also be described as the assumption by someone who doesn't understand something that they do understand something.

No thanks but you go ahead if you like. Trust me what you're suggesting is just what religions are desperate for.

They are springloaded and ready. They want a war so badly they don't know what to do with themselves. They actually rip and tear at each other because they don't have an enemy like you're proposing.

Why do you think there are so many denominations? When a religion becomes dominant it must turn on itself so that it can have an enemy.

But you go ahead I'll wave at your severed head when it's on a pike.

I dare say, a world without religious dogma and militant proselytization would be wonderful. We might actually learn to get along and move a few steps forward academically.

Unfortunately, religion or not, there will always be instances of human stupidity, ignorance, and bigotry. For the most part, Man is a peaceful creature. At least when he's solitary. When there are more than one of them in a confined space, they start comparing themselves and coming up with reasons not to like the other.

The damning lack of any and all empirical data (to date) to suggest the slightest possibility that anything even remotely godlike, let alone a god exists, suffices this atheist.

Faith is just believing something because someone told you to. It is in essence letting someone else think for you. It is therefore irresponsible.

i don't see a problem with faith. for example i honestly don't fully understand about stars and the moon and sun (especially if it was hundreds of years ago) or the ocean tides, but i have faith in them, that they will happen. I don't really know how clouds form but i have faith in clouds. i trust them.

young people tend to like logic, but the older i get the more useless logic seems to me.

I feel wars would happen anyways, The truth behind wars is usually land or resources.

Gods are usually a rallying cry.

I agree that faith itself is the fundamental problem, but I don't know how you convince someone who has faith in faith, that faith is not valid.

How do you suppose we go about forming a nonreligious peace movement?

there are plenty of good, faithful people....I would vote for a removal of absolutism and arrogance....the faith is fine-- without all of the 'my way is the only right way' and 'you will burn in hell' bs.
