No, actually "spooning" is an old word for making out. My grandmother told me this long ago. She was born in 1899, and she knew all the old fashioned terms, like "ten-penny nails." Ten nails for a penny, I guess!
By the way, sleeping spoon-style is different. That's when you cuddle front to back, like spoons in a drawer!

Spooning can be part of cuddling, it is simply when a two people lie together facing the same direction, with the person lying in the back (big spoon) holding the person in the front (the little spoon)

Hmm so many answers!! I've always thought of spooning as cuddling....but I can see how others got spooning as a sexual thing too. I guess its all up to you on what you want it to mean =D

My dad's a doctor and he says you'd be surprised at how many spoons they have to extract from people's rectums every year. Spooning can end in an embarassing trip to the hospital.

Yes, spooning is similar to cuddling. It is NOT having sex.
When you spoon, you lay on one side and your partner lays on the same side nestled up against you and he holds you. So you look like 2 spoons nested into each other.

Yes, spooning is a form of cuddling. Most couples do it before they fall asleep, or while watching TV on the sofa.
Both are on their side, one holds the other from behind. It's quite tender and often leads to forking. j/k

When you sleep together in a spoon possition means you face the same way with your bodies together. In the old days I think spooning meant you were dating but not sure.

Honestly... It can be both... Some people will call it the spooning position during sex, but you also say you spooned someone while you sleep... and it has nothing to do with sex just a sleeping or laying down position.
