In most States, cars over a certain age do not require a title (7 or so years is the norm). However, you will have to bring your registration with you, and sign it over to them. If you don't have the registration, then you will have to go to your local Dept of Motor Vehicles to obtain one (make sure to bring proof of purchase; if you don't have such, bring the VIN and a photo ID, so you can sign an affidavit to the effect that it is yours; you might be best off calling the DMV in advance, just to verify what they'll need from you).

As for value, you can check any new/used auto pricing website, but don't expect the junk yard to pay anywhere near that amount (a totalled (as you made it seem) vehicle will get little more than $100, if that).

But, don't forget that you'll have to find a way to bring the clunker to the junkyard. You'd be much better off donating it to a worthwhile, LEGITIMATE, charity, who will haul your vehicle for you at no charge - - thus, saving you the cost of towing the vehicle to the junkyard - - and, with the receipt you'll get from the charity (who might even include a copy of your car's evaulation!), you'll be able to deduct the REASONABLE cost of the vehicle from your Federal taxes (assuming you live in the US). It's a "win" for everybody! (P.S. You'll still need to transfer the registration to the charity, or anyone else to whom you give/sell the car!)

BEFORE you junk the car,, cut the catalytic converter off of it. That ALONE is worth about $50 to $100. After you junk your car, and get about $100 for it (scrap metal value) take the catalytic converter in and sell it, and get another $50 to $100. A good way to stretch getting every dollar out of your old car when you go to scrap it
