I used to have Bulimia Nervosa (for 4 years) and have been recovered for 3 years now (woohoo). For me, it was something engrained in me very young, I had letters I had written my mom (I spent my summers with my grama outta state to visit) when I was just 8 years old complaining about being fat, and gaining weight since being there etc... 8 years old! Over the years, it progressively got worse. Everything in life was consumed with thoughts of being fat, comparing myself to others, what I'm eating or thinking about eating, what other people were eating! Everything in me was overwhelemed with thinking about weight and needing to be smaller (when I was small to start with but was blinded by my eating disorder).
My mom has struggled with her weight her whole life, as with her mom, so I think it can be something that is passed down, like a family curse or something. You know how some families are full of people who lie or exaggerate, some are all bossy or controlling etc. Like a family root.
That website contains a ton of information about our society's standards etc, and has some statistics and facts if you need any.
Good luck to you,
Toni Lynne - 22 years old

Perfection, peer pressure, wanting to be in control, media..
Also, something I found interesting was a study that studied people with eating disorders and they found that with all of those people.. there was an abnormality of blood flow to the part of the brain that affects body image. Might be something you want to look up...? I just thought it was interesting.

nicely, i assume it is accessible that a small proportion have something incorrect with their strategies, like a chemical imbalance. i think of something are having some style of subject concerns. i comprehend a pal of mine's daughter had anorexia. He mom and father have been having marital problems and he or she is on the edge of her mom and he or she replaced into additionally away in college. She describes it because of the fact the only element she is able to administration. i think weight problems is likewise an ingesting affliction, although maximum do no longer classify it that way. i think of that could come from a loss of administration in one's existence or being instructed which you're no longer good adequate so which you prepare it. Or some use nutrition as a drug to lead them to sense greater valuable, although like alcohol and medicines, they sense worse after wards. i think of maximum are predisposed to the possibility after which existence situations set off it.

hmmmm - -
INSECURITIES
LOW SELF-ESTEEM
MEDIA
PEER PRESSURE
You have got to think soooo little of yourself to allow the media and your peer how you should regardless of whether or not it's healthy. Basically, someone who is lost and lacks self-respect and self-confidence will VERY EASILY listen to other people (anyone other than themselves) coz they don't trust their own judgment.
I know - I used to be like that. I went to as little as size 4 because they said at my height I am supposed to weigh xx much. Who is to say really? Now I am not any shorter and I am 145 pounds and I'm size 8 AND I feel and look great!

our society is obsessed with being thin. eating disorders are only seen in countries with an abundence of food and a high regard for image.
interesting fact: anorexia actually started in the late 1800's among young women of affluent families.

The media and what we see as 'normal' has alot to do with it.
Some people have low self esteem and feel badly about themselves in general and then focus on their body/weight.
Some people have a chemical imbalance that cause them to feel bad or actually 'see' themselves as fat when they aren't.
Some people feel so out of control in their life that they focus on controlling their weight and food.
