I just got my 6 month old miniature schnauzer puppy, Daisy, spayed. I was wondering, what can she NOT do? How much should I feed her each day? When can that E-collar ( round, white collar) come off?

no stressful playing with humans or other animals. i had to keep the collar on my dog for 2 weeks straight until she got her stitiches removed from the vet....and she should be able to eat her regular amount of food each day. if you want to take the collar off make sure to have an eye on her at all times b/c the dog will chew the stitches right out. the vet actually told me if the dog chews hard enough some of her insides could come out.....gross!!

PS
i just had my yorkie poo spayed one month ago.

first off thank you for being a good pet owner. dont let her jump on anything and dont let her lick at the stitches. You can take off the e-collar when you want but keep a close eye on her. If you are not around to watch her put it back on though. make sure you check it everyday, if it looks infected call your vet! (red and puffy, any discharge) as far as feeding her dont give her any food the first day, it can upset her stomach and if she gets sick it can tear the stitches internally. Just water, if she is feeling better and more active the next day give her a little food, (her normal food) if she does good with that increase back to her regular diet. she should be back to her playful self in a week or so. GOOD LUCK!! if you have any other questions let your vet know.

First, Thank you! Thank you! for spaying your dog. I'm so proud of your decision.

The E-collar can come off when the vet takes out the stitches. Not before or she'll chew them and possibly cause serious injury to herself. Not fun and very expensive.

Keep her clean. that is don't let her play in muddy, dirty places to keep her incision clean and dry.

Wait until her stitches come out before bathing her.

Keep her quiet (if you can!) - don't be playing roughly with her. She'll be back to her normal active self soon - if not sooner! but try to keep the really rough, bouncy stuff down until she gets her stitches out.

when she comes home from the vet she'll no doubt be a bit woozy. Feed her about half her daily ration of food. And keep her quiet.

Next day, feed her normal ration - but break it up into several smaller meals just to keep her tummy from upsetting.

A day or two after that - you can feed her her normal ration without too much worry.

I wouldn't worry too much about her getting fat. Schnauzers are normally active dogs and can keep weight off normally. However, as she ages (several years from now) she may become less active. That's when you need to watch the weight gain

the e collar is to keep her from chewing out sutures etc ...when did the vet say to come back? She may or may not eat a little less than she did prior to surgery. she should be able to resume regular activity in a day or two...some do the day after...walk her and let her decide from there.

The vet should have given you a care sheet for her, while she's healing from the spay surgery. If they didn't, ask for one. It lists a lot of the important things you need to know.

You should talk to your vet about her after care. Feed regularly she can do all her regular activities just make sure they are not to strenuous. for the first day or so she is going to be slugish.

You are worrying about her like a good momma. Help her up on the furniture or up the stairs and things like that she has to climb or when she gets down. Her tummy is sore and the stitches pull a little.

Talk to your vet - you should be asking HIM these questions, because he's the one who did the surgery. You should have gotten this information from your vet when you picked your dog up...

Then call your vet! Ask your VET these questions - not unqualified strangers!
