If you have nothing to eat than having a Christmas tree or a gift becomes quite inconsequential. I am sure the % is way too high. Why do we always think of this at Christmas? A hungry stomach is hungry every day of the year, not just Xmas. So many of us have way too much, and really don't need anything, so donate to the food bank in your community thruout the year, including Xmas, if you don't like that then hook up with a church in your neighbourhood, many of them are aware of the less fortunate in your very own neighbourhood and you would not know it as many people are too proud to let others know they need help. One hungry child breaks my heart. There are way too many. Why not go visit a neighbour, senior, or with children, and take with you a food basket as a gift, crackers, cheese, fruit etc. It does not need to be extravagant. It won't look like your assisting, just a cheery Xmas visit from a neighbour. Just a thought.

There is no reason that any child needs to. There are sooo many charities out there that provide but many times the parents have to swallow their pride and ask for the help. Many parents will also choose to spend their money on things they dont need (alcohol, drugs, lottery) instead of taking care of their kids needs and wants.
There is NO reason why any child should ever go hungry in the US. If they are then maybe you should look at what their parents are doing to allow this to happen. It is either they arent doing enough to provide or they are too prideful to ask for a handout.

Too many. That's why I tell my company to give my turkey to a homeless shelter or soup kitchen rather than me. And why I told secret Santa people that instead of giving people gifts, they really should be donating that $10 to the food bank.
I would hope they would think of doing this more than once a year, but they don't.

well there are about 744,000 homeless people in the us. 36% of which are children, which means 267,840 homless children. i'll round that to 300,000.divided by the about 74 million children in the us... 0.4%, but considering all the kids who do have homes and are abused/neglected, or too poor for gift.... let's make it 1%. that's still a quarter of a million kids too many!!
