When requesting proof of God's existence, I often here the look around you response. As if a tree proves God's existence or mountains or the earth itself or even the universe. These things do NOT prove the existence of a supreme being.

This theory is often presented as ALL OF THIS COULD NOT HAVE COME ABOUT ON ITS OWN. (Sometimes even as a story about a boat coming together on its own)

All of this boils down to JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, DOESN'T MEAN THERE IS A GOD. So we don't know how the universe came to be, how does that prove that God created it? The reality is, we don't know...period. No reason to jump to supernatural conclusions just because we don't know something.

People are so afraid of the unknown that they have to make up an unprovable reason for things they don't know. It's been going on forever.

Your analysis is correct in every detail. Noted Catholic theologian Hans Kung, in an exhaustive treatment of the subject, concluded that neither the existence nor non-existence of god could be shown by logic or evidence [ref. 1]. (Not surprisingly, he chose the affirmative position, explicitly acknowledging that it was a choice.) But the lack of proof does not imply a lack of evidence, and all of the evidence indicates that there is no such thing as a god [ref. 2]. Furthermore, it can be shown that no belief in such a thing can have any consequences in the real world, so all such beliefs are a waste of time -- as well as intellectual pollution, with many nasty effects [ref. 3]. For discussion of why people believe in such a thing, see ref. 4.

More of a rant than a question, however--I agree with you. As I've mucked about in YA over time--the one conclusion I've truly come to--is that there is no point in arguing with fundamentalist and such. I'd rather swap ideas with an atheist--the one defining characteristic an atheist has is an open and inquiring mind. You can not have reasonable discussions with those that have closed minds. I keep trying because I do believe a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

"JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, DOESN'T MEAN THERE IS A GOD." Doesn't mean there ain't one, either.

Consider: How much do you know about God? Nothing? Well, then, do you know what you're talking about?

Let's get serious: Since you are asking for proof, I can't help wondering if you aren't really looking for God. Here are some facts:
1. God does not need to prove Himself to you, nor will He ever do so. Those who try so hard to convince you about him are wasting their time. If God wants you to know Him, He will start the conversation.
2. The believer has no mandate to save you, to bring you to God, to change your mind. Our duty is to proclaim Christ. God will do the rest. He may or may not choose you as one of His own.
3. Spiritual or "supernatural" things are of God, not man. And you cannot believe in or understand these things unless God enables you to do so.

Penn and Teller made a point about intelligent design. It could have just as easily been aliens who did the work as a god or gods. There is absolutely no evidence to back it up. If someone demands that it be taught in classrooms then let that person know that if it is taught in classrooms then it should be taught that a possible intelligence behind the design should be aliens.

The best proof that there is no God is President George W Bush. If there was a God in heaven who loved human beings so much He sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins, that God would NEVER, NEVER EVER have created a GEORGE W BUSH and even if He DID create him, God would NEVER have allowed him to become the President of the United States! So, the fact that Bush is in the White House is all the proof I need that there is NO God!

The best part is when they add in the junk about how perfect things are. If they took some time to actually research things they'd see it's not all that perfect.

Another fact: the chances of life coming out of random shuffling of amino acids is 1 in 10 to the 40,000 power.

That's 40,000 zeros.

Plus: Our Lady of Guadalupe and the miracle spring in Lourdes, France. look up those. They are scientifically unexplainable and are STILL around.

Your free to believe whatever you like but God's word is truth and if you care to prove it wrong go ahead and try to do it but there is enough proof that God exists for everyone to come to Him for Salvation
