Unfortunately, that system does not give you the results you are looking for. You will always get the best price when you are in the dealership, ready to buy. The Internet quote system has become more of a bait & switch tactic and dealerships don't take fax requests seriously. You can get a better deal using the auto evaluators negotiating technique because it's a proven system that is based on the same way top sales associates close customers. Good luck and I hope this helps.

The dealer is not going to give you their best price by you just asking for it. You have to fight for it, and faxes are not the way to do that. The best way to do it without actually going into the dealership is by starting off with emails showing your interest, and then migrating to phone calls once you get them hooked. They can't pull any of that charm over the phone, so all you have to do is give your offer, and see where it goes from there. I'm currently in this process, and I'm doing it both ways. I went to the dealership, and they're trying to pull every trick in the book on me, but of course, I haven't bitten yet. The dealers I'm doing the phone thing with keep calling back, and they'll give me an offer, and then ask me when a good time to come in is. I just tell them that a good time is when they can offer the car for the price I wanted in the first place.
It helps to have multiple dealers fighting against each other, so if you can get a quote from 3 or 4 stores, use them against each other to get the lowest one.

Bought 2 vehicles under invoice, had 4 others in the office who did the same....not affiliated in any way and would never by a vehicle any other way...it's best to know the vehicle you are interested in purchasing...they give you everything you need to know about the vehicle and dealer costs..Of course it's tough to get a break on vehicles in demand but for mass production vehicles HELL YEAH! ....Now I'm in NJ which has a lot of competition...but I faxed all the dealers in a 50 mile radius and had them competitively out-bidding each other for the sale....never left home except to see what the color looked like at the local dealership.....HUGE recommendation!

I work at a dealer and we get faxes like you describe ALL the time, we just routinely throw them away, without even reading them. Most dealers are friendly and fair minded, despite the crap you read on the innernets. Just do a little homework, as to what you deserve for interest rates etc.

1. Wrong about new car vs used car financing. Fewer banks will offer new car financing, and it's harder to get approved for a new car loan with little or bad credit. Where I work, only about half the lenders will offer loans on new cars. If you don't qualify for a loan from one of those lenders, no new car for you. 2. 1st time buyers usually need 30% or more as a down payment. You didn't have that cash to buy a new Prius, so the dealer put you in the next best thing, a Prius you could actually afford. It's their job to make the deal happen, and that's what they did. Bottom line is, you don't have the cash or credit to buy a new Prius. You probably could have bought a new Corolla or Yaris or Camry, but no. It also sounds like you didn't try too hard to negotiate the best deal for yourself. Not good. This is what happens when people don't bother to educate themselves on their financing options and car prices. Car salesmen are aggressive. Their job is to make as much money as possible for themselves and their store. Unprepared buyers like you are easy prey for them. Unwinding this deal won't change anything because you'll be back in the same boat. Might as well keep what you have for now. The next dealer won't be much different.

Ahh, the things we all do to save 50 bucks. Why not just buy a car youve never seen or driven. Thats the SMART way.
