I mean, really. Where in the bible does it say "Thou shalt call yourselves Christians"? Why is this such a hot topic for the anti's? Who. Cares. What. We. Consider. Ourselves? My personal feelings on the subject is if Christians are such an exclusive group that they don't allow people who worship Christ in because they worship Christ, then i don't want to be one.

"*gasp* Oh no she didn't!"

Oh yes I did. I don't want to be a Christian if I have to be likened to some of the "Traditional Christians" I know. And the Jews and TBC don't have a problem with it, why should we?

So why is the "Christian" label so important to you guys? Anyone. I've seen people from all faiths ask this, including atheists, which baffles my mind, but story for another day....

Would Jesus sit here and bicker about who is or isn't his follower? Read Mark 9:38-41.
On that note, isn't the point of being a "Christian" to be more "Christlike"?

Especially since it was the pagans who started calling followers of Christ "Christians" in the first place....hmm...I like pagans, but makes me wonder....

Amnesty sucks, I feel the same way you do, but apparently, the definiton of a "true christian" was made a long time ago, and of course, it's like high school where the "cool crowd" is not open to outsiders. IF falling into that definition is what it means to be a Christian, really, then I don't need to be one. Labels are useless when you deny the REAL truth for it.

HA! I agree with Gumby. lol I mean, come on, some of the people on here are heartless.

In the Bible the followers of Christ were called Christians by others as a term of mockery, much like the name Mormons was applied to us. According to Webster, which is usually trusted by most normal people as a reliable source, a Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Christ and tries to live like He did. So are "true Christians" all of a sudden saying that the dictionary isn't true, and we shouldn't follow it............?

Your last sentence says it all! One of the things that Christ taught was to go out into the world and preach the Gospel. Like any salesperson, they should make it sound attractive so people will want to be Christian. I don't go by some of them either. Some people can be so self-righteous. God cannot work with those kind because they cannot be taught anything. They think they have the "Inside scoop". A true christian should be a living example of Christ. Let people see how a christian should be by the way they live. Not always by what they say. You will know who a true christian is by their fruits. ( By how they act, talk, and live. ) Besides, you will catch more flies with honey than vinager.

You make a great point. I think we just want everyone to know that we follow Christ of the New Testament. That is all that really matters anyway.

Edit**
Scott needs to check his facts a little. I don't think that John Smith ever wrote a religious text of any form- I could be wrong on that- we should ask Pocohontas Kolob is not a planet either- I won't tell you what it is because you really don't care about the facts. And as for the Multiple Wives, I don't think that is anywhere in LDS Doctrine- and yes Heavenly father is THE GOD. Please verify your facts before you make yourself sound like a complete moron.

Sorry- maybe that was not at all Christ-like but come on people check you info before you quote it as fact.

I call myself Christian because I believe in Jesus as my Savior. I think anyone who has accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and repents from their sin, is a Christian. I do believe that some denominations may have false doctrines but I am not the final authority on that. I just do what I can to follow God/Christ. I have no interest in the label itself. I don't think the label is important. What is important is that we believe Jesus as our personal Savior no matter what you want to call that. I think LDS can be Christians but I personally think they believe in a false profit and the Book of Mormon is not the real holy book either, the Bible is real. As long as they believe Jesus as Savior though and repent of their sins, that is the most important thing.

I agree there are lots of people on here and other places judging and we need to be careful about that.

Doesn't getting into an argument like this violate the 1st, 2nd and 13th articles of Faith.

I have often been amazed at how little fellow LDS know of various world theologies. Especially since we are a missionary church. So many of our young men go to places where they know nothing of the prevalent religions. That doesn't make us any different from most other missionary religions but it does strike me as being short sighted and ill prepared.

Call us what you will it does not change what we believe.

I agree that if calling myself Christian lumps me in with the people who say they are and then are mean and rude to others, then I don't want to be one. They can call me whatever they like. It will be them that will have to answer for their actions, just as we do. So, I'll just sit in my one little space, believe as I do, try to be Christ-like and let God sort it all out in the end. As long as I am being faithful to the covenants I have made, I have nothing to worry about in the end.

In the end - do we really care what other people have to say about it and us? I am not concerned about what Evangelicals, Catholics, Protestants, Atheists, Agnostics label me -- I am only concerned about my own judgment day when i stand before my Savior, Jesus Christ -- I hope to know him well enough to recognize him and be the recipient of a great big bear hug from my Big Brother...
Beyond that, it's like water off a duck's back...

No the world would not come to an end just because LDS admitted the truth, The world will come to an end when God says so. No one is gasping at what you said because you have not said anything that is not said all the time.

World won't end until it's the right time. The funny thing is, everyone is Christian whether they know it or not in this life, according to Mormon doctrine from the pre-earth life. So labels are meaningless.

Christ taught that there is a why of distinguishing his believers.....by their fruits (or actions). Matthew 7:20-21

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

It doesn't really matter what men think. It is what God thinks. And he has said by your actions, you will know if you are a true follower of Christ.

In my opinion, Mormons match that closer than anyone else.
But that is just my humble opinion.
