No, cats don't really dwell on things like that, cats are very firm believers in the 'live in the now' philosophy. At first they may act strange and not be happy with their new environment but after a couple of weeks they will settle in and become so used to the new house they reject even the idea of returning to the old one.

I've cared for a lot of cats over the years, if they spend more than two weeks at the hotel they start to act like they plan on living with us forever. We've actually had more than a few who stayed for more than a month and acted angry when their family came to take them home, one even started yowling and tried to hide behind me. They'd gotten so used to the hotel they thought it was their home

Don't feel bad, as long as the new home gives him love he will be fine

It is sad that you have to give up your cat, but at least you are trying to find him another home. If you know someone that can take it that would be best, but if not make sure you take it to a good vet or shelter. Sometimes there are people that take animals until they can find them another owner. Good luck!I don't think it will feel unloved as long as someone takes good care of it. Don't just leave it in a pound unless there's no other choice.

I got my cat from the shelter 5 years ago. He was about 4 at the time and we don't know how many homes he had before that. We lived in Texas, moved to New Orleans, got hit by Katrina and he was evacuated to Mississippi with relatives while we evacuated to Texas, then we got him back but had to live at my mom's house(totally new to him) and finally we moved back in our house. He's been all over with different people and is still as sweet as ever. You can tell he is loved and knows it. I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure whoever takes him will love him.

My cat Gilford only lived with his Mum and then we took him at nine weeks. He is 9 months now. The other day I was outside and I could hear two little girls shouting for Buffy. They came to ask me if I had seen that black fluffy cat (my cat gilford!) It turned out that he goes to them every day and their mum feeds him tuna! We also adopted George, whom we thought was a stray, but it turns out he was the house behind us cat, tho they keep him outside. He hasn't left my couch for months. Cats are fine if the are fed and watered! Thats what I've decided anyway!
