Stalin was Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army and created the stratagey employed in the defensive of Stalingrad and the subsequent encirclement of the German army besieging the city. While Stalin never led troops into physical battle like John Wayne or Tom Hanks in the movie, he was physically present at the front for a significant amount of time. Stalin's role in leading the Red Army was similar to that of Eisenhower.

I have read a lot about WWII and have never heard that. I don't know of Stalin's personally bravery. But you have to have some to eliminate 30 million of your own people and not go insane from looking over your shoulder.
I doubt stalin ever lead any group of soldiers into battle. But if someone showed me a picture or an article from a russian newspaper I would find it highly more likely it was a staged propaganda piece in an effort to rally the people against the Nazi's than anything else.

Tell your teacher Stalin was a journalist never a military man;he didn't fight at the time of the Revolution,he would have fought in WWII as the Leader of USSR? never happened...the communist system is so interdependent on personal relationships that It would never have allowed its Secretary General to get exposed to danger.
For your information,of all leaders of the major combatant nations only Winston Churchil had been a regular soldier with war experience(Sudan,Boer war where he was captured and escaped) and Adolf Hitler,a decorated messenger corporal in the line of battle (WWI)

She may be confusing him with Kruschev. He was a general in WW2 and fought at Stalingrad and later became Secretary General and Premier of the USSR. He was their leader during the Cuban missile crisis when Kennedy was in office. I am fairly sure that Stalin did not lead any troops into battle.

He led the charge in the Battle of Potemkin Village! :)
No, Stalin would never have put himself in a position where he was surrounded by armed Russian citizens. He wouldn't have survived 5 seconds. He was not loved by the people he oppressed.

not only did Stalin not lead any troops into combat, for the first few months of the German invasion, he holed up and didn't show much leadership at all. your teacher is wrong.

I do not believe it. Like most true tyrants, he sought power by sacrificing the sons of workers and farmers, not the sons of the ruling class. I really doubt that he would have risked his own life.
