They live above me, & all you hear them do is have sex, argue, & fight. I mainly hear the guy yelling & I hear lots of stumping & thumping. I get terrified & wonder if I should call the cops. I don't want that woman getting hurt.

Call the cops--they need to know, especially if she isn't reporting the abuse. ONce they come and investigate, they'll have a record of the disturbance--you have done your part and possibly saved a life.
Do not fail to act. Just think about the numbers of women who have been beaten/murdered by their partners and not one person did a thing to help them.

Ultimately SHE has to be the one to take action here. It is a double edged sword I am afraid. You see, if you call and report it, yes, he may get arrested, and taken to jail for the night, but when he gets out the repercussions could be quite disastrous for her. Either she is tooscared to do something, or not too worried, if she is continuing to have sex and live with him. Remember that until you see the actual hurting, you cant know the truth.

That is hard. You can call the police when they get too noisy and you suspect she is being abused. At least it will get checked out. If she chooses to deny it, then that is sad, but you have done the best you can for the time being.

calling the cops could make it worse!what you have to do,is be her friend and try to help her,right now she is feeling insecure,cause HE made her feel like that!that's why she's staying with him!she thinks that she won't make it on her own!build up her self-confidence in herself and when she confides to you that she is getting abuse,that's when you should give her a help line to call!or go with her to a place where other women who are abused meet!hope i helped!
