Believe it or not, I think they get tattoos for the very same reasons they buy all of that other fashion junk you listed. Primarily because they want to be the focus of everyones attention, because they are never happy with themselves and the way they naturally look and most recently because they think they are proving something to everyone else.
But as the posted questions here in Y!A prove every single day, they mainly do it "because all their friends do". Females abhor the thought of being unpopular.

I like a new purse per month.
I also like to color my hair a lot and change the type of it.
Now the heels and dress part I stay away from.
But I do also have a lot of nail polish.
And I have 5 tattoos. That I adore.
I didn't get them to be popular (because the stupid popularity laws kind of die once you hit college) but I got them because I have always loved tattoos. As much as I love to change my style, I have 5 great pieces of artwork on my body. Since I'm an artist, it also goes along with that. Just because I like to change certain things doesn't mean that I want to change everything. I'd never change my artwork.

Two things:
Do you really know (or know of) that many women who have these habits? I don't think I know any. One or two may be fashion plates to a certain extent, but one I didn't even know she had a tattoo (she has a small thing on her ankle, a memento to a great aunt). Hollywood doesn't count in this query - it's part of their business to have an unusual lifestyle, and so many personas are manufactured it's nigh impossible to know what's them and what's just done for exposure.
By implication, the set of tattooed women plus these habits are the target of the question and not inked women in general... correct? So, it's really only those (rather rare if existent, in my experience) women possess all of the above that's the question, right? It looks to be a fairly small group to examine, but whatever.
I actually don't know any in that fit this description, but I wanted a clearer definition in case others were confused. I know a fair number of tattooed women - and people in general - but that seems to be an irrelevant data point.

somewhat physique replace of somewhat some varieties, like tattoos, have been around for hundreds of years. in many cultures they have continuously been the norm for the two adult males and ladies. It replace into the Judeo-Christian impression which stopped it in those cultures over which that they had sufficient administration to shape social custom and as that impression receded the customs have replaced to boot. people purely think of this is new because of the fact they have an inclination to no longer pay interest to cultures different than their very own.

Preppy girls often get tattoos to be cool or because it's cute. She can have reason but she usually doesn't as far as I've seen from my preppyish friends that did that. I have my two because I wanted them and thought them out but a lot of people do it in haste for the hell of it. Don't get me wrong, not all girls are this way.

tattoos transcend style. i'm a female with tattoos and while i am not an extreme dresser nor am i a shoe fanatic i do enjoy wearing all different styles of clothes and makeup. clothes are just a dressing for my body and i dress for my moods. my tattoos are a part of who i am, a part of my inner being which is something that doesn't change like moods and clothing could never represent.
