Hello all! I want to buy my kitten a cat tree for her first Christmas. She has tons of energy to burn and I think she'd love it. I even took her to the pet store one day and I allowed her to frolic on one and she had a ball.
My questions are for those of you who bought one....after your kitten "grew up", did they still play on it? Was it worth the money?
I'd like to buy her a nice one (and those are pricey) but I cannot see myself spending a king's ransom for something she's only going to like/use for a few months.
Even if you haven't bought one and know someone who has I'd appreciate your thoughts and stories too! Oh. And if you thought about a tree but went with another large toy, what did you purchase? Does your cat like it?
Thank you!

invest in a tree that is taller than your hip.. as a kitten short posts work, but as they get older they want something bigger and sturdier. I have several cat trees in my house, and the two that get the most use are the two tallest ones.

There are great deals to be had on Ebay.. It is where I got my 6 footer.. I got mine from the dealer listed in the link

I have two cats, one is 2 years old, the other is 18 months old. I have bought them several different climbing toys, a playhouse from Target & a popup tent from Ikea. They still play on them a lot, especially the playhouse from Target. I think cats are like kids in that they go through different phases with their toys. Like kids, an empty box seems to be a favorite toy.

I read that cats are one of the few animals that retain a sense of play as they age. My last cat lived to be nearly 19 years old & until the last year of her life, was still playful, climbing on things & chasing toys.

Good luck!!

I have a cat tree. They no longer play on it! They do like sleeping in the basket on it. I would also, lol. I have found with cats that you peak their interest again when you move it somewhere else. I don't know why this is this way for them but they seem to think its new or something.

I'm going to have to buy a second one because two of my cats have fights over who gets to use it! (They don't get the human "sharing" thing.) One of them is 9 and the other is 1 1/2. It's a great investment - well worth the money.

ok, this one i can answer in confidence..

me and my wife have 2 cats that i actually rescued. they are about 2 years apart in age..we bought a tree (post) with a mose toy attached to the top of it..when (annie)-the younger one, got the statnd she played with it as a kitten, the older of the 2 liked it also (gizmo)..they both still love it...whats funny is all the toys we buy them (they are both spoiled) they both like the most dumbest things money cant buy..take a milk ring off a gallon of milk top.and they love it..noooo, they want play with their cat toys we buy (well sometimes), they love the free toys..but to answer, yes my cats still love the cat post we bought them...(i used to have a dog always growing up, but since i got married and me and my wife both work, i feel it wasnt fair to keep a dog caged up while i we were at work. our 2 cats roam our house and love it..they are truly independant but love attention when we get home..i have become a cat lover i must say...i even taught them to fetch theyre catnip mice toy and bring back)..

i just rescued another kitten that someone threw out of a car here near my job..i took it to my parents and they kept him. named him sylvester (sly) for short. my dad recently had a stroke, and thats his buddy now. (my parents just picked him up from the vet yesterday. got him all his shots..he is spoiled rotten now)..he will have a great life now.

I bought one for my two cats when they were a few months old. They are 5 years old now, and bigger, so they don't really "play" on it, but they do sleep on/in it and use it as a scratching post. I bought mine for $150 from ebay, and I think it was more than worth it.

I agree, well worth the money. As they get older and don't "play" with it as often it becomes a favorite nap spot and a lounge for them. It will change uses as your cat matures. Your kitten will love it! And its obvious how much you love your kitten for buying her/him a christmas present!!!
