UGH! Can someone explain to me what I should get? Everything this woman on the phone tells me confuses me more. Should I get prime or standard? Atm I have standard.
AND my husband is deploying, I'm moving down to Corpus Christi to be near family. I'll need at least my annual womens ck up, and a yearly physical, plus little stuff I get like sinus infections, etcetera. Where do I go for that? I'd RATHER have a civilian doctor, dentist too... how does that work? This is all so new and utterly confusing to me still! Help!?

With standard you can see any doctor that takes medicare. (Always ask if they take Tricare Standard first) You will pay 25% of what Tricare allows. With prime, you pay an annual fee and can only see doctors who are Tricare providers, ie they have a contract with Tricare. You still have to pay a co-pay but not sure what that is. Also with standard there is a deductable of 150.00 per individual and 300.00 per family. If you are near a MTF (Military hospital) and plan to be treated there, you will want Tricare Prime. You will not pay a co-pay at an MTF.

If you're moving down to CC why not call the Corpus Christi NAS and ask the clinic there what they suggest. They'll know if you'll be treated on or off base, etc. They'll probably be less confusing to speak to, since they know what facilities they have available for you. I think it's still a small clinic so you probably will have at least a civilian dentist, maybe even a civilian doc for some things. Good luck

Prime! Smaller co-pays, more choices of doctors. I have Tricare Prime. We pay 6-9 dollars for prescriptions and I have no copay for doctor's visits, which is great, because we go to the doctor a lot. If you're going to be close to a military installation that's accepting new patients than Tricare standard would be decent, but Tricare Prime is usually the way to go.

TriCare Prime: you get your Visits paid for, BUT you see Military Dr's.

TriCare Standard: pretty much like an HMO, where you get to choose your Dr, BUT you have a Co-Pay on Visits and RX's.

I have Prime, but I get referrals to see Civilian Dr's where TriCare will either pay for the Visits or reimburse me.

You are learning, there are 3 ways of doing things, the right way, the wrong way, and the Army way.

I'm sure others will be more helpful. My best to you and your husband.
