I have a 5th grader and a 2nd grader and they both just recently (within the last 3 months) started wearing deoderant. I actually noticed the BO on my younger son first. I let them choose the one they wanted (from a selection that I picked out ahead of time) so they think it was their idea and they think it's cool. My oldest son (who is 10) also has started having to wash his face and use stridex pads every night. All kids develope at different ages but usually between 8-12, puberty can begin. Good luck
PS Isn't it crazy how fast they grow up?

Kids need to begin using deoderant when you begin to notice an odor.
3rd grade does sound a bit young but I'm sure it's not unheard of.

My 10 year old daughter just this week starting needing it. It was a VERY obvious smell. She is in the 5th grade. I didn't start wearing deodorant until the 7th grade. I thought that 5th grade was early. Take your son to the dr. if you're really worried.

4th grade is when the school nurse recomended it, but everyone already did it. I started in like second, I would use my sisters when I got out of the shower (at night, lol!). If he needs it, then he should wear it, because it's not that early for him.

I dont know why but boys mature faster now days than they used to my son and grandsons all started using deodorant at about 9 yrs old and ther is abosolutly nothing wrong with that it just helps in them learning good hygiene earlier.I was beginning to think that boys hormones start changing earlier than they used to. Good luck

My 9 year olds 4th grade teacher told us at parent orientation this year that deodorant starts in the 4th grade (and she got a lot of laughs). My son uses it even though he really doesnt need it yet but it makes him feel like he is growing up so its all good.
