his old school should have an archive of yearbooks in their library

I would suggest that you find out what schools your dad went to and estimate what time period he might have attended those schools. Also contact the library or the school district system to see if they might have those books.
Check out classmates.com and see what info comes up.

ebay or craigslist in the city where he graduated - also, contact the school to see if you can purchase one or view one on-site
