Wednesdays are my slow days at work. I have only two things to do and 8 hours to do it. Therefore, when I am done I am bored. Also, I sometimes get bored doing one of the things I have to do. Another thing, my desk is not located next to my coworkers so I do not interact with them. This contributes to my boredom.

It is not your boss's job to entertain you while you're at work, so you most certainly should NOT tell him/ her that you're "bored" - neither when you're completing a boring task nor when you have nothing to do.

When you have free time, ask your boss if there's anything else you can do. I'm sure he/ she has piles of work, and you score points for showing initiative. As for the less engaging parts of your job - get over it. We all have to do boring stuff from time to time. That's why they call it "work"!

EDIT: Merle, I don't think you're doing the asker any favors by encouraging her to use the word "bored" when talking to her supervisor. While it might not bother YOU to have an employee speak that way, it would bother MOST supervisors. Unless you know her boss personally, the asker should be encouraged to err on the side of caution/ tactfulness when dealing with her superior(s).

You are very considerate and hopefully your boss appreciates that. But you do need to speak up. Ask your boss if you can speak with her about a concern. She'll be relieved to hear that your concern is boredom! Let her know that you are willing to take on more work, particularly on Wednesdays. Point out some of your strengths: what you are good at, how you have gotten faster at certain tasks etc.
I would also tell her that you would like more opportunity to interact with your coworkers.
In both cases, you should spend some time thinking of solutions before your meeting. When you have a problem at work it is always a good idea to show that you have thought through the problem and have some good ideas for how to solve it. Try to identify some new tasks that you could tackle and tell her you'd like to give them a try. Maybe you can even think of things you could do with your coworkers.
I can tell you, I would be happy to have an employee tell me he is bored - it says to me that you are up to bigger challenges!
Hope that helps!

Same here! Gosh i asked my boss to give me more things to do, i work at a fast Pace so I'm usually done with that soon after. Then some of my co workers and i found out about this web site so in my spare time i answer peoples questions. haha! The holidays are near so i do some shopping on-line to! :) As for you question... tell your boss that you have finished with your other work and if their is anything more that you can do, that you would like to broaden your horizons and learn some new things and have more challenging tasks, or you can try and ask your co workers if you can take some load off them. Getting paid to do nothing is cool... but its a waste of time. :)

Make an appointment with your boss. Tell him you would like more challenging things to do. He may be able to pull some work from an over-worked staff member or give you some of his work. Maybe re-write the staff manual? Update some procedures? Proof read some copy?

Is it possible to re-locate your desk? Would someone like to trade desks with you?

Without knowing what you do it is difficult to think up something for you to do.

Be careful of telling bosses you are bored. You may not like the busy work they give you to occupy your time. But, if you're brave, by all means, go to him/her and say: I have a lot of free time on Wednesdays and would love something more to do.

Just ask him for more work when you feel bored....works everytime.
I'm pretty secluded from the rest of the group in my office so I can understand how that would contribute to your boredom, I just keep myself as busy as possible and if that means I have to ask for extra work, then so be it. Besides it looks really good!!!

Either clean your space really well or tell the boss you need a stupid little thing to do because you are caught up. (I did this once and got in on a small project that turned out to be fun!)

Ask for more work to do, because they are paying you to just sit there. There is nothing a business owner or manager hates more than wasting money on an employee with nothing to do.

If they have nothing more for you to do, ask if you can bring in a book.

Go up to him/her and ask "Is there anything else you need me to do? I've completed the jobs I was assigned." If your boss is like my bosses were, they will find you something to do.

Your coworkers are there to work not entertain you.
