I have a female miniature schnauzer named Missy that we've had for around 3-4 years. She's my baby, spending every night in my room and pretty much following me wherever I go.

And then there's my stepsister's cat, Tiger, that is a 9 year-old orange tabby. She's not a bad cat, but she needlessly attacks Missy and injures her commonly.

I was typing in my room when, all of a sudden, I hear a screeching yelp, and my dog comes dashing in my room with a sliced nose. My sister was watching, and evidently Tiger wandered up to where my dog was sleeping and striked, following her taking of the spot to sleep on herself.

I about killed the damn cat.

Of course, my stepsister's dad refuses to get rid of, or even discipline the cat, though my stepsister is never around hardly to care for it.

Pretty much the case; i take care of the cat, and she attacks my dog.

What do I do?

You need to keep the cats nails trimmed. I trim my 3 cats nails myself with a baby mail clipper. It's very easy. The cat might put up a fight. If that's the case, try using two people to do the job. If that still doesn't work, take him to the vet and they will do it for you. I clip my cats nails about once a week. It takes 5 min to do all three cats. They're much easier than dogs. Their nails are usually clear, so you don't have to worry about making them bleed. They're also much softer. I don't believe in declawing so I feel this is your best bet. They will need to get over there differences. That may never happen but at least you won't have to worry about a wounded dog!

This is tough, but I take the side of the dog on this. The cat is going out of its way to harass the dog. Next time you see the cat mess with the dog discipline the cat. Show the cat there will be a punishment for that behavior. And in turn re-enforce your love for the dog. Let her know she hasnt done anything wrong and reward her.

It is your stepsister's responsibility to care for her animal, to include making sure it is not a danger to other animals in the house. If she can not or will not manage her cat, then she needs to find a responsible person who will. She needs to know that you will hold her responsible for any vet bills due to injury to your dog caused by her cat.

It is not okay for one animal to cause harm to another, no matter what the species. It doesn't matter if the cat is just playing or being a mean jerk who steals sleeping spots.

If a dog attacked my cat, I'd be after the dogs owner to make sure it didn't happen again. It is no different when a cat attacks your doggie.

Go to the pet store and buy "Soft Paws" claw caps for cats. Put them on your step-sister's cat. Just on the front paws should be enough for this. Then she won't be able to scratch your dog. Correctly applied, they stay on at least a couple of months. The cat can still stretch its claws and retract them. Check once in a while to see if any need to be replaced.
I think that should solve your problem.

some animals not at all supply up what they think of is their homestead. they could not at all get alongside, and that they could at last get alongside. Its no longer basic to tell. if your cat has not at all gotten alongside with dogs, then in line with possibility getting the dogs wasnt a sensible selection. Your cat probably wont take to the dogs and could save tormenting it. There isnt lots you're able to do different than save showing her that no longer attacking is a superb deed and advantages her. If that doesnt artwork then regrettably, you are able to finally end up making a decision.

You should do as Tina suggests and trim the cat's claws. I also wanted to point out that you can't discipline a cat. They don't think like a dog does and won't remember why you are punishing them. All you can really do is try to keep your dog away from the cat. The cat is probably just trying to play with the dog but the dog is a wuss. Sorry, but thats the truth.
