I'm protesting against the movie "The Golden Compass" because it was made to transfer people from their religon to aitheist (a person who doesn't belive in God). I want to know how I can contact the person your wrote it and the person who filmed it. I'm making a petition about it and I need to send it to them. Also is there any other ways I can protest without getting in trouble with the law. I'm only 12 and I don't want that much bad stuff on my perminit record already.

I'm not allowed to. My parents won't let me. Also my youth group leader told me that teenagers are more gulable and when watching something like that we think it's real. I don't want to watch it if it would turn me into a God hating freak. (no offences to the people who don't believe in God).

I'm on The Golden Compass website right now. I'm doing my research. So far I don't like it one bit. They believe a person's soul live on the outside of the body. We believe the soul in inside the body. It lookds exactly like I knew it would be. Against believeing in God.

Also one of the villians is called Magisterium. I looked that name up in the dictionary and it says that it is –noun Roman Catholic Church.
the authority and power of the church to teach religious truth. How could that be a villian. That is also against God.

Don't listen to these yahoo's sweety! They are calling you brainwashed. Ha! They are the ones who are brain washed. This movie is not a children's movie. Pullman himself says that his books are about Killing God! This is not Children's books! Stick to what you believe!

I do not want to slander anyone but i want to ask you guys, have you ever read the books? If you have you will know that they are great books and they are just fantasy. When did it become a such a terrible thing to read or watch fantasy? It is just entertainment you make your own decision whether or not you believe if the story being told is your own beliefs. If this author was truly against god he would have done a lot more then wrote some entertaining CHILDREN's books wouldn't you think? It is not fair for people like you to make decisions for the rest of the population based on your own beliefs. I still believe in god and i like these stories. There is nothing against that. These stories will not make people lose their faith if their faith is strong enough. Also most people know that when you watch or read these stories that they are just fictional. What i am trying to say that this movie was not made to transfer people into an aitheist, it was merely made because it is a great story and the book won many awards. And a story that good should be shared with everyone. You may not understand this because you are so young (sorry;() but when you live on your like most adults and don't have much in your life, great movies and stories like these bring a little happiness into them. Thats what movies do. They entertain...make people laugh and make them happy. If their real intentions were in convert people then why not make it something more serious like a documentry? or a speech? Sure more people will watch a movie but most people know that it is just a movie and it won't be taken seriously. So all i want you to do is think about this and take into consideration that this is just a movie and it is not real. And if you over analyse everything then there would be nothing in this world but people wrapped in dog leashes to scared to do anything because o it is a sin to do this or a sin to do that. What kind of life is that? I am sorry if i offended anyone or insulted anyone. Those were not my intentions. P.S the daemons are not your soul completely it is piece of it. It merely symbolises the type of person you are. For example if it is a cat then you will know that person indepenent. I believe that this piece of the story is an unique idea nothing more.

Any protest is going to just increase interest in the movie.
I'm in the process of reading the book and so far I can see that it is more "adult" than most children's books, dealing with some very complex themes (infidelity, murder, people having to choose "the lesser of two evils," how two people can be at odds while each thinks they are doing right, asking if parents are always right, and others).
One of the best things I'm seeing so far is that it features a strong female protagonist who is not just letting the forces of the world carry her about. She is actually trying to take a stand and act according to her moral and ethical compass, even when it means opposing a parent whom she feels is doing wrong.
This is a good thing, IMHO.
Have you read the books? I commend you for attempting to follow your own moral compass, but are you doing so out of knowledge or just what you've been told by others? Please consider this before taking steps. If, after finding the facts, you're still motivated to protest or gather signatures, more power to you.
The a letter (or petition) could probably be sent to the author by way of the book publisher. They usually receive correspondence and send it on to their authors. As far as the director or producer of the film, you might be able to do the same through the studio's web site.
Remember, it's just a story. It may inspire people to think, but it won't _make_ anyone do anything.
EDIT: There is a certain irony that the story is about an 11-year-old girl who finds that she must make up her mind regarding the stories the adults in her life have told her and take a stand for what she feels is right and just.

I have not seen it, and am cautious of "knee jerk" reactions to cautions put out from various sources. My research regarding this movie would indicate that it is one to be avoided.
Movie "The Golden Compass"
St Pauls Hebron
Dec 6, 2007
Be alert! A new movie, The Golden Compass, is set to be released on Dec. 7, 2007 throughout the US and translated into 32 different languages as well. The movie is based on a trilogy, His Dark Materials. The author, Phillip Pullman has said in an interview that this trilogy concentrates upon this theme "I Want to kill God in the minds of Children... I want them to decide against God and the Kingdom of Heaven" quote from Phillip Pullman. The Golden Compass, a sanitized version of the book, wants to have children and young people rebel against parents, teachers, the Church, and anyone in authority.

Christians should unite in spreading the Gospel of Christ, in order to save the lost from eternal damnation. This movie should be avoided by all Christians. Regarding making a petition against this anti-Christian movie would probably acquire a lot of signatures, I would probably find out the address of the production company for this movie and send a petition, via one of the following sites:
www.care2.com
www.gopetition.com
www.petitiononline.com
www.thepetitionsite.com
I would make it a polite letter, explaining that such a movie isn't wanted by the following people, due to it's anti-Christian/anti-God sentiment.
You could probably find the production company on www.IMDB.com.

you have every right to protest whatever you want but you better have an idea of what you're protesting about. you didn't see a bunch of atheists come together to protest the chronicles of narnia did you? you know why? we respect the freedom of expression.
you do realize the book is fiction right? it's not a documentary. maybe you should organize a good old fashioned book burning event just like the nazis did.
open minded people can see the truth and beauty in different things whereas closed minded people only focus on the differences. where do you see yourself?

The best protest is to not see the movie, and to avoid purchasing any tie-ins or Mr. Pullman's books. Grassroots efforts like sending an e-mail to your like-minded friends so they can also avoid adding to the box office take or merchandise sales are effective without giving more promotion to the movie. Quietly avoiding the Golden Compass will avoid giving it any free advertising.

I don't understand why an Atheist would be writing about demons and witches. As a former Atheist myself, I didn't believe in demons, but as someone argued with me, the christian C.S. Lewis had a witch in the Lion the Witch and Waredrove, Witch = satan, Lion = Jesus, shaving the beard = pulling Jesus beard before he was put on the cross by the Roman soldiers, Aslam rising from the dead = Jesus Ressurection ect. and them saying that maybe the demons and witches symbolize something, yes it makes sense IF they symbolize something, so what is it they symbolize?!
Otherwise, I have a hard time knowing what an Atheist is doing writing about something they do not believe in?

If you don't approve of the movie, don't go see it. Kid, there are far more important things you can do with your time besides protesting literature. Volunteer at a food kitchen, save the money you don't spend going to see a movie you don't approve of and donate the funds to a worthy cause, use your energy to protest the oppression of women in the Middle East.
If everyone who was offended by every book or movie was to protest it, could you imagine what a lame world this would be???

Ah yes, the old Christians passing judgment on all that is not like them...rather an elitist and Non-Christian way to be don't you think?
How do you protest something that you have not read or seen on your own? How do you protest something you haven't formed a legitimate opinion on? You are protesting because of what someone TOLD you? Isn't this how the masses become dulled down yes-nodding pawns of a controlling system?
Whether you are Christian or not you have to realize that there is an entire world outside of that glass jar someone is forcing to live in and not everything outside that glass jar is destructive just because it isn't "Christian".
Are you satisfied taking the immediate word of others? Have you given up thinking for yourself at such a young age? That scares me much more than the idea that someone else's creativity is out to "destroy young minds".
Why do masses of people get all in a huff when someone puts forth an alternative thought or idea?
Who is controlling who? Sounds like your church and your youth leader are creating most of the propaganda that will only spark more interest in what is a great story and movie...
Brainwashed and a robot by the age of 12. How sad...
I would hate to see you flip out if someone protested a far out collection of stories like I don't know...the Bible?

You do realize that you're supposed to be 13 to come on this site, right? Anyhow, I don't support protesting this film. Use your beliefs to change the world by concentrating your efforts on something that will make a difference in this world and relieve someone else's suffering. Volunteer at a soup kitchen.
It will teach you more about life and you'll be serving others. Your protests will only make more money for the film and your assumptions about the message of the film are wrong. It's not turning people into atheists, it's questioning organized religion. BIG difference.
