let him cry. after 5 min, comfort him, but do not pick him up, and then leave the room. this time, let him cry for 10 min... comfort him, leave... then 15... then 20... etc... eventually he'll go to sleep, and after a few nights of this, he'll go to bed easily for you.

What a bunch of meanies! Would you want to be left alone to cry in the dark? Most people in the world do NOT sleep alone. I don't sleep alone, so why should my kids?
Learn to use a sling to wear your baby during the day. Sometimes the extra closeness lets baby relax at bedtime. The sling is so good for babies. They learn so much more than Baby Einstein can teach them just by riding along with mom or dad.
Learn to accept this short stage of high needs. It will pass, I promise. The sooner you meet all of your baby's needs, the sooner he can outgrow them.

You're not doing him any favors by not letting him figure out how to sleep by himself. Really. This is how people end up on sleep medications. A lot of things are hard at first, just like this will be, but in 2 days, he will be sleeping by himself just fine. He will also sleep better, longer, and more regularly. He will not hold it against you.

This is NORMAL infant behavior. Being in your arms helps him feel safe and secure. Hold him, rock him, carry him in a sling during the day, let him sleep with you at night. He won't be a baby forever.

Put him down and let him cry. When he understands that no one will pick him up, he will eventually give up and go to sleep. There is nothing wrong with letting them cry some. He has learned that this trigger gets him picked up and you oblige.

assign a bedtime blanket or toy that he ALWAYS has.
put him in bed with it, for my daughter its a stuffed animal we call bun bun.
tuck them both in under the blanket.
walk out,
close the door
he'll cry
after ten minutes you could go back in tuck him in again tell him good night. depending how how he is crying.
then let him cry till he sleeps
after about 15 min they usually fall asleep.
after about 3 days he will get the idea
be strong

Just put him down and leave him to cry. He will learn that the cannot always get what he wants that way. Best of luck to you. Hope this helps.
