The paperwork is all available... you fill it out and drop it in the mail just like EVERYONE ELSE !!

GOOD point to the person who mentioned those who are married... you leave a POA so your spouse can do it.

The person who mentioned "Tax-Free" deployment is WRONG... your BASE PAY is the only thing that is "un-taxed", and that is ONLY for those INSIDE a COMBAT ZONE. And for OFFICERS, there is a MAXIMUM amount that is untaxed (in one of my cruises it was about 4 months worth.

NO MATTER WHAT, you STILL have to file your return or a request for an extension.

I filed my taxes from the ship 7 of my 15 years in the Navy.

Have all your mail forwared to the APO or FPO address, I was able to file all my taxes while overseas, and one answer above stated that there are no taxes on your military pay , which is incorrect , your are ony tax-exepmt if serving in a war zone. I could be wrong

If they're single they file an extension or use an online program. Bases also have volunteers that help with taxes during tax season.

If they're married they probably have their spouse with a power of attorney file them.

anyone deployed automatically gets an extension that lasts until six months AFTER they return. the command Finance dept should actually take care of all of this for you with no effort on your part.. at least that's how it worked for us.

If they are deployed they can get an extension to file when they get back.

I used Turbotax to fill out the forms and simply mailed them to the IRS. (Technically - I could legally have waited to file but I figured that it was better to just get them done.)

We'll since you can get it done for free on base. I'm sure when you are overseas you can still get it done for free on base.
