Have you tried the Volume Control?
Double click the little speaker by the clock or go Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control

In the window that pops up click Options in the top left then Properties and in the new window select Recording then click OK.

Not aware of a way to adjust the inout level with MMaker (which does not mean there isn't one...). Instead use the volume control for the micro inself to adjust the level.

Right click on the Volume Control from the system tray by the clock and select "Open Volume Control". (If not there, use Control Panel > Sound and Audio icon > Advanced button to get to the same screen)
Click on "Options" in the menu and select Properties
You will get a window where you can select to Adjust the Volume for "Recording".
Raise or lower the mic volume there as needed.
