ok, so i'm trying to type a paper, but every time i go back to add something, instead of the words scooting over, they're being erased by what i'm typing, or any spaces that i've put in...
for instance:
original: i help
what i WANT: i need help
what happens: i need
see what i mean? it doesn't push the word "help" over... it erases it. how do i set it so that it just pushes the word help over, and won't erase it?
THANKS A TON!!!

You probably have the Insert / Overwrite flag set to overwrite.
By pressing the Ins key you should see the setting toggle in the status bar.
You want it to be in Insert mode. When it is it will push the text instead of overwrite it.

Real easy on your keyboard hit the Insert button next to Home.
Where the these buttons are:
Insert / Home / Page Up
Delete / End / Page Down
If you look at the bottom of your screen right above the Task Bar, Word's status bar displays OVR when this feature is turned on. Simply press Insert to turn it back off or press it again to turn it back on.

As the person above said, you need to hit the insert button. Word has two correction modes: Overwrite and Insert. If it is in Overwrite, which is what you are describing, you will see "OVR" at the bottom of the screen, otherwise it is in Insert mode. The Insert button toggles between the two.

In word it is called over type
When you are editing text in Overtype mode, you are typing new characters over the existing characters. In Word and Excel, if Overtype mode is turned on, OVR appears on the status bar (status bar: A horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen that displays information about the current condition of the program, such as the status of items in the window, the progress of the current task, or information about the selected item.). In Outlook, OVR does not appear.
To insert characters into existing text instead of overtyping that text, you must first turn off Overtype mode.
Turn on or off Overtype
* Press INSERT or INS to turn Overtype mode on or off.

You just need to hit the "insert" button on the right side of the keyboard. For some reason, you must have hit it before, taking you out of insert.

just press the INSERT button on your keyboard. That will take care of it. Happens all the time.

It could be that you accidentally pressed the insert button on your keyboard I would check to see.
