I need a quick release mechanism to release a load of about 20,000 lbs. Ideally the ball bearing clutch type, where a ring holds ball bearings in a groove on the load pin. Sliding the sleeve back allows the ball bearings to move out, releasing the pin.

Does anybody know who sells these, or some other type of load release mechanism? I think special effects people use them a lot.

Thanks
Dave

A pelican hook is a quick release for a load in tension.

The device you are describing with the ball bearings is a : Quick release hitch pin for a pintle hook. There are detent pins which have a ball bearing on the end. Another style is a ball lock or positive lock pin which uses a ball bearing and requires a plunger to be pressed to pull the pin.

Check out the link on triggers there are some homemade quick releases shown
