Checked luggage is placed in the belly of the plane in the cargo section and you can't get to it during the flight. Hand luggage is what you carry ON to the plane and store under your seat or over your head.

It should say "chucked" luggage. Have you ever seen them throw around luggage? From the time you check it, and they throw it on the conveyor belt, and then watch the guys laod and unload luggage from the plane....lol, well really it's not funny. I have had so much luggage ruined over time. Every airport takes care differently though.
Checked is luggage that will be stored in the hull of the plane during hte flight. You will get it back at your final destination at the baggage claim area. Hand luggage would then be the luggage you can carry on, and either store under the seat back in front of you, or stow in the over head compartments. This allows you access to your stuff when the flight attendent says it is now safe you use your portable electronics. Never check a laptop, always carry it on!

Hand luggage is a British term for "carry on luggage." Each country and airline has it's own rules about what size bags count as carryon items. If you are traveling in the USA, check out the Transport Security Agency (TSA) website.

Checked luggage is the pieces of luggage that you hand over to the airline to be stored in the cargo hold during the flight. You can't access this luggage until you land.

Checked luggage bags are the ones that you put on the scale and they process it directly to the cargo hold of the plane you are flying on.
Hand luggage is what you carry on with you like your purse and one other piece like an overnight size bag, perhaps a laptop, that type of thing.

So checked luggage goes in the cargo hold of the plane
and hand luggage goes on the place with your person.

Checked luggage flies in the cargo hold of the plane.

Hand luggage is the one, bag that you take onto the plane with you with a change of clothes, your toiletries (in case they lose your luggage) and important things like jewelry and documents.

Ok...checked luggage is checked in and placed with other baggage on the plane, train, bus, etc.

Hand luggage is carried on with you and placed in a storage bin above you.

One goes in the belly of the plane (checked), the other you carry on board with you and stow it in the overhead bins.

Also- with checked luggage, you should be prepared to never see it again. lol
