I should of added "Public Toilet" to the question. The tap you turn on to wash your hands is dirty. I use a paper towel to turn it of & a paper towel for the door handle on exiting the toilet.

The taps have been pre-contaminated by other users of the toilet prior to washing their hands.

If there is a sink and water available there is no excuse. The one time I remember I did not wash my hands, it was because the water that came out was yellow with brown stuff coming out (it looked like dirt) and it smelled like raw eggs. They eventually fixed the pipes.

I used the sink in the break room instead. I use anti-bacterial lotion and sanitizer at times for additional use but never in lieu of washing my hands.

If there is no water. That happened to me in a department store once. I guess the water was off because they were doing maintenance or something. The toilets were working though, thankfully. It was kinda gross. I always wash my hands after going to the bathroom.

Rushing or just plain ignorance... dirty hands are one of the biggest contaminators and reasons for the spread of germs, and also the easiest to prevent and/or control. You have no idea what is growing in a moist environment (with humans and their waste coming in and out of it). It can be where the eye can't see or in the air or on the door... I'm shuddering just thinking about it, and I'm not even a germ-a-phobe.

There's no excuse for not washing your hands, especially as you touch the door latch to open it and you only have to be behind someone that got their hands 'dirty'. Yuck doesn't bear thinking about!
No wonder I try not to use public toilets!

The only reason I don't wash my hands is if there's no sink or water to use. I even rub my hands vigorously under running water if there's no soap so that at least my hands get partially clean. I am always amazed at the number of people who don't wash their hands - it's just plain gross to know that their fecal matter is being distributed everywhere they touch.

OMG i have no idea why anyone would not wash there hands after using the toilet..unless the sink was dirtier than the doorknob to get out.

The sink is dirtier than the toilet. I carry the hand sanitizer in my purse so I just use it until I can get to a clean sink to wash in. (This happened to me a store resently.)

I have no hands ... I'm lazy .... the sink was dirtier than my hands or you could just be nice to everyone in the nearby area and wash your darn hands!
