Well, I love Handel's Messiah for obvious reasons. Also, I find The Flaming Lips "The Soft Bulletin" to be straight up gospel, in a way. It is one of the most hopeful, vulnerable/transparent records I've ever heard. This should be a goal for all people, in my opinion. :)
Wait! I forgot Al Green's Jesus is Waiting --- this was the first song at my wedding. How can you deny a song when it is simultaneously the funkiest and the most truthful song of all time? :D

There is a lot of more modern (past 50 years) music that I enjoy and that gets me thinking, but for a truly "transcendental" experience, something like Mozart's requiem does more for me. To be honest, I think a big part of it is that it's in a foreign language. I know enough Latin to know what concepts are being communicated, but the exact words are more ephemeral. Also, the layering of the many different instruments gives my brain more to chew on than just a drum set, bass, 2 guitars, and a dude singing.
**Oh, yeah--I'm with KL, too. Love me some Handel.

Thank goodness christian music is starting to get more up beat with a variety for all tastes in sounds. I have a soft spot for Garth Brooke's "Faith" but I go to a young and up beat church called "THE ROCK" in San Diego and the music there is awesome. You can research them on line if your interested. They are just a small church with almost 8,000 members so far. Down to Earth and a lot of fun.

Electronic and Lounge...and then the really heavy symphonic modern and foundational classical peices.
Last comes heavy metal, but it can burn me out sometimes or leave a bad mood in me. Sometimes it's good, other times it just makes me feel worse and more depressed. Lounge and Electronic always seem to make me feel really relaxed. DJ Shadow, Thivery Corp, TheEgg, etc. Good stuff. Supperclub is nice.

Cradle of Filth....Mussorgsky?????
Are you my soul mate or what?
(My oldest daughter listened to nothing but Mussogsky, Borodin, and Tchikovsky when she was a newborn - and it turned her into a prodigy. My youngest son was a Beethoven baby. Specifically Bethoven's 9th, 2nd movement.)

Well Lammas or as we Norse call it Hlæfmæst is a time to be thankful for the proceeding harvest and it is time to ask for good health and safety for the comming Winter. This holiday is sacred to Thor and is celebrated by making loaves of bread shaped like man and is when thrashing parties were thrown, also when food stores were put up and prepared for the coming winter months. Time to make the Mead.

My favourite is the Gladiator soundtrack
My favourite religious song is an amazing song version of "Our Father" created by a student at my university, but not too many will be able to relate to that...

" I love you more than the sun ,
and the stars that I taught how to shine
you are mine
and you shine for me too.
I love you yesterday and today and to-morrorow
I'll say it again and again
I love you mooore!"
