Quite possibly, try another disc or purchase Nero Burning ROM.

Not strange, at all! Just get a fire extinguisher! ;)

Seriously, though, you didn't mention what kind of CD-ROM drive you have (CD-R, CD+R, DVD/CD writer, etc), which could make a big difference.

Regardless, the reasons for the drive openning before copying are numerous:

1) The drive is read-only

2) The disk might not be blank

3) You might be attempting to use a DVD instead of a CD

4) You inserted the CD upside down

5) The CD is faulty (it happens! there's one brand of CD at work that won't record on my machine, but I have no such problems with other makes!)

And so on and so forth.

Of course, this is assuming that the file didn't actually copy; maybe it went so quickly that you didn't realize it. Did you try playing it, just for the heck of it?

I usually run into 3-4 bad disks in a package, I just assume there's some microscopic defect and get a new one out.

probably bad disk. About 1 out 10 cheap ones don't work at all, from my experience.

Well, the answer is in the question. You've got a "Blu-ray" and a "DVD" drive. Neither were built to read a CD. It is a hardware issue.
