I have Excell 2003 on my laptop, every time i save a new document the only way i can open it is by using recently opened items. if i try to open the doc in the normal way (from the folder where its saved) i can't. it will only open in notepad, i can browse all programs in my pc but still cannot open documents in excel. can anyone help me please?? i have re-installed the whole office program!

i have tried right clicking on the file but when i browse programs i still cant open the file with excel. i know there should be a simple solution to this problem. you all probably think im really thick but i have tried everything ive even spoken to a friend who is an it tech. NOTHING is working

you need to make a file association with the excel file extension (xls). it is currently set to use notepad (probably done unintentionally before you had excel installed)

To correct this:

-Open a folder, click Tools> Folder options.
-In the next box, click the File Types tab
-scroll until you find XLS file type - click it once
-choose the CHANGE button below and locate the Excel program and click it then click OK

after this, all XLS files will open with Excel

Right click the excel file then choose open with, then from there choose excel , before pressing ok check the box that says to tuse this program all the time....

hit ok and the file will open and any future files should open in excel...

Hmmmm check to see if you have also got an older version of excel installed on ur comp, and if there is get rid of it :D
