Yes you should. Quote from mcgill website:

"When should you see a doctor?
If you have any of the following symptoms:

* A fever higher than 39ºC (102.2ºF) taken orally that won't go down after self-care
* A high fever accompanied by a serious medical condition
* Prolonged fever for more than 3 days
* You have a severe headache, are hallucinating or are acting confused
* You have a stiff neck (you can't touch your chin to your chest)
* Abnormal breathing or pain in the chest with deep breaths
* You have redness, swelling, and pain anywhere on the body
* Persistent ear pain or pain in the sinuses (face)
* Persistent sore throat
* Urinary pain, burning, or frequency
* Green, yellow, or bloody-colored discharge from the nose, throat, or ears
* Diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain"

Since the fever is that high, I would take him to a doctor.
Edit: Since he has had this feaver for quite some time now, I would definitely bring him to a doctor, Or even the ER if you get can't an appointment.

According to several health sites
Three months to two years. If your child has a fever of 101.4 watch how he or she acts. Call the doctor if the fever rises or lasts for more than three days, or if your child has any of the warning signs listed below. If the temperature is 103, call your doctor even if your child seems to feel fine.

If the child's behavior is not normal they are listless or irritable, vomits repeatedly, has a severe headache or stomachache or has any other symptoms causing significant discomfort. Then they should be seen right away.

The guidelines on the sites I put in the source area seemed helpful in deciding urgency, but of course you are the mother and can tell when something is just not right and if you are unsure you should go to the urgent care. They all agree that in that age group the child's behavior is the biggest indicator.

A fever is simply when your body is working hard to kill a virus THAT'S IT!!! You did not mention how long he has had a fever? If its been days and its not going down with regualr medication then YES take him to see a doctor IF NOT then NO. Give him some childrens motrin or tylynol every 4 hours for a day or 2 and I bet he will be better!!! If you take him to the doctor they are going to say the same thing. My son had a fever of 104 not to long ago and he is FINE now without some doctor!

If your son is running a high fever, call the clinic and see if there are things which you can do to reduce the fever. If they advise taking the child in, then you are assured that you are doing the proper thing. Regardless of the situation, action is required ,if only for your peace of mind..

He definitely needs to see the doctor, but I would wait until the regular drs appt. Give him a fever reducer like tylenol or motrin, but if it continues to rise, take him to the walk-in place immediately. But, if you can keep it under control, just wait until the regular drs. appt.

To E.R., NEVER ignore a fever over 101 in children under 6 years old. Better SAFE than SORRY.
