My sisters dog did this every time she went into season, she would protect her teddys as if they were her puppies, and put them all in her bed and wouldn't let anyone touch them. It sounds like your dog is doing the same thing. My sister was advised by the vet to have her dog spayed because she was getting aggressive when anybody went near her bed. Since being spayed she hasn't done it.

I know of a few people who've had dogs that do this. (I'm guessing that your dog is female.) Some dogs have a phantom pregnancy where they show the signs of being pregnant- belly swells, teats fill with milk, but they are not really pregnant.
females that gather toys and clean them and care for them do this as they think these items are their babies and they need to care for them. A woman I know has a dog that does this at least once every year, and her dog was spayed many years ago. After a while she will get tired and abandon her 'babies'. This is what your dog is doing. Don't be concerned, it's more common than most people think.

If you have a new puppy, he probably misses his mom and litter mates. Try putting a clock in the dogs bed (one that tciks, not digital) it will remind him of his mom, just give a lot of TLC and he will get over it. If this is an adult dog then I don't know. I would still go with some tlc, maybe try to get him around other dogs for some playtime (try a petstore or a dog park). If it keeps up I would call the vet, he could be sick.

If you know for a fact that your dog is not pregnant, then it is probably a psuedo-pregnancy. Back when I was in elementary school, our black lab had one. We thought she was pregnant for sure. She even started lactating. When she didn't have puppies after about a week, we took her to the vet to make sure everything was ok. Sure enough there were no puppies inside. Then we got her fixed because our vet said if she had one psuedo pregnancy, that she was high risk of having another one. It was sad, I wanted puppies.

It sounds like false pregnancy. She must of been in heat a few months ago and her hormones are telling her that she's pregnant. She will be fine once the hormone levels drop.

Ah, so sad. She is lonely and has mothering instincts. I say get her a puppy to care for. My beagle takes care of my pug that way. Cleaning his eyes and ears and keeping him warm at night. They are very social creatures.

Has your dog had puppies before? If so, it may be remembering. If not, maybe its expecting or it observed another dog acting that way.
