He's about 4 1/2 - 5 months old, and I rescued him from a burning car in a junk yard when he was pretty much first born. He's never seemed to really be playing with a "full deck of cards" but he's an awesome kitten. He is very smart and seems to do everything the dogs do, but he will NOT stay out of Christmas tree! It's a fake one and really expensive and hes breaking the branches and chewing the wires. We squirt him and firmly yell NO when he's in it and then we crate him. Unfortunately he is just not learning. So any cat experts advice would be wonderful!
and I don't want to hear anything from any of you A holes telling me to just beat the creature or any of that crap because i'll hunt you down and BEAT YOU

Thanks : )

lol, yes beat anyone that says that for sure.

my cat is doing the same thing this year. every single ornament on the tree is strewed about the house every afternoon when i get home.

i guess you just gotta take the brat cat with a grain of salt and try your best to keep him out. anything you do to try and keep the cat is probably going to make your tree not as pretty, stink, or be expensive and a lot of work.

just get the kitten coal for Christmas.

Cats dislike the smell of menthol or eucalyptus oil which you can buy cheaply at the chemist. (Citrus oil, Olbas oil or Vicks Vapor rub have the same effect, and you can see the cat visibly back off from the smell). Add a few drops to water and spray a mist of this over the tree, or smear the oil directly onto the trunk or base. My cats were chewing the lower branches of my fibre optic tree, and I've found this has put them off going near it. The good thing about this deterrent, is that it works when I'm not around to keep an eye on them. Cats have a much stronger sense of smell than humans, so you don't need it to be an overpowering smell, and you can refresh it at any time if you think it's beginning to wear off. You can also surround the base of the tree with pine cones which you have scented with menthol or eucalyptus. Cats hate the feel of pine cones underfoot, so it also helps stop them wanting to get to close to the tree.

Honestly, mom has 3 kittens this year. My cat passed away Mothers day so they replaced it with 3! We have always had cats. Cats that love X-mas trees! Places like walmart have this round plastic toy that you put catnip in the center and they can hit the ball around the track in the toy. They get near the tree but always head to the catnip because they can't resist. Then they get high and move the play with the ball. One lays on her back staring at the lights in the tree with her little paw in the air like she's touching it. It's funny to watch. We take some X-mas bows & put them in a box next to the tree & the cats love playng with that too. Laser pointer lights are good for getting them out of the tree & on to the next thing too. If nothing works you will have to keep kitty in a room until the tree comes down like my friend did, but I hope you won't. It seems cruel to me. Kittens are like kids, distract them!

Don't spray the cat, instead spray the tree.

Good luck! I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago. The only thing I've found that works is a spray bottle of water. But, then again, that only works when you are home and right there with them. I have been leaving for work as normal and hoping the tree & decor isn't on the ground when I walk in the door. So far so good. My biggest problem is that mine seems to prefer to drink the water from the stand rather than drink the water from her water bowl.

You can't keep him out of it, just tie the tree up to something so it won't fall over, take off ANY breakables and ALL the tinsel (that stuff can kill your cat) and hope for the best.

Unless you have the tree in a room with a door he can't open, you'll have very few options here. Trees are just too 'cool' to cats.

They have several sprays that keep critters out of things. you could try spraying the lower branches with this to see ifi t helps. As for the wires, if there is a spot he really likes, you can mix some powdered alum (in the baking section of the supermarket) and hand lotion and apply to intact wires. It is VERY tart.
Good luck!

It will work,,,hang a couple of pieces of cloth,,form the tree and spray them,,and I even spray the tree skirt. Best of luck,,,and do not mind Luke,,,,he must be a sad fella to make such nasty remarks.

Best of luck,,,H

get a squirt bottle and spray him when he gets in the tree. They also sell little annoying alarms when the cat go's into an area hes not suppost to. You cant hear it, only animals can. Trust me it works!

LOL I got 2 four month old girl kittens. One of them loves to climb inside the tree and the other one likes to play with the ornaments. I just put them in the family room downstairs with the door shut until they calm down. :) Do you have a basement with a warm room put your kitten there til he/she calms down or put vinegar in your tree if it is fake, if real... I havent the slightest.
