I am amazed at the stupidity of people who think that every car dealer is in it just to rip people off. Why don't you go complain about getting ripped off at the grocery store? if they were making the same percentage of profit on a gallon of milk that a car dealer makes on a new car, that milk would cost about $1.25 a gallon.

I enjoy how everyone says it's the dealer ripping off the customer. I must ask, when and how do you think this originated? It started with the Internet, peoples ability to see invoice, and where they hear people talking about holdback, and thinking everything is negotiable even below cost. All of you started this, you will work a dealer down to nothing on a deal, and the only way to keep the lights on is to make a little money. You can thank the state for it being wide spread though. It's not legal to charge a buyer fee, or delivery charge to just the people who try to get something over on you. It has to be uniform across the board.

So, blame the customers who think they should buy everything at cost, and the state for not allowing us to pick and choose who we charge a delivery fee to.

It's not stupid to pay it. The people above are wrong. They are right about it being mostly profit. Dealers do incur costs for the processing of registrations, sales papers, etc, but it nowhere near these processing charges. What they are wrong about is that it is optional. It oftentimes is not optional. For example, in many states dealers are permitted to charge this by law, but to everyone equally. So in CT, they are allowed to charge a maximum amount but every single person buying that car has to pay the exact same thing. My advice would be to negotiate harder on the purchase price because anyway to cut it, you're probably going to stuck with this.

This is just extra profit for the greedy car dealer. Do yourself a favor and refuse to do business with this dealership. Go online to other dealerships and get quotes from their internet websites....you will find a much better deal elsewhere and send a message to those pigs! Good luck

The justification is the buyer's stupidity in paying it. Basically it is a profit fee to the person who sells the car., A bonus, so to speak, that they can slip in and people will pay because they don't demand that they not be charged the fee and walk if it is not removed.

You people didn't know that running a dealership is free and the cars are too? Wow! Surprise folks, it's called operating costs and paying the people to work at the dealership. New cars cost money. What a shock!

None. Probably another way or scam to get more money from the poor, uninformed buyer.
