You are not desperate. If you have the money, buy it. Just make sure it is something you REALLY want. Don't buy because you are feeling depressed or its just a whim, or for status. buy it because you WANT it.
If you buy for any other reason, you will not like it after a few weeks, then you will be stuck with something expensive that you can't get your money back for.
also, consider this: You meet a man and fall in love, and for some reason he might not be a millionaire but he loves you enough to propose to you...and he can't afford a ring that is even close to the one you already bought yourself...how do you think that would make the guy feel? How would you feel?
Getting engaged is a very cool life experience. It's memorable, something you will cherish forever. Is this ring worth potentially ruining one of the most important moments of your life?
Only you can decide...

I think that if there is not a hidden reason behind your want...it is 100% okay and not an act of desperation. Some people may question though where it came. If you are prepared to answer then go get it! I would maybe recommend a gemstone ring or some diamond earring instead, then when you actually get your diamond ring it will be really special from the man you love! Good luck in deciding.

No sweetheart you are not desperate and if you want it you buy it. I did. I have always wanted a diamond white gold solitaire and even though I was 55 at the time, I bought the one I really liked. No-one has ever asked me who bought it for me, and if they did I would simply tell them I bought it myself because I loved it. I also bought myself a white gold diamond bridge ring too. By the way sweetheart, a word of warning (and I heard this from a jeweler), it is best not to buy a diamond set in yellow gold because the stones of are an inferior quality which doesn't show up in yellow gold, BUT, if they put an inferior stone in a white gold or platinum setting, the defects would be easily detectable. You go for it girl, you deserve to treat yourself to something really special at least once in your life.

Girl, there's nothing wrong with buying yourself some jewelry, if you like it, then buy it. Especially, bcuz you feel like you really deserve it :)
There is NOTHING desperate about that. Desperate would be sleeping with a really old rich man just for money or a diamond ring....lol
What are you waiting for? Get off the comp and go buy it!

Your mother is old fashion. Some women see the right hand diamond rings as a "wedding ring". People put that meaning into such an object. If you don't see it that way, no worries. It speaks a lot of about you.
However, she might be concerned that if you do wear a "wedding ring", it might be off putting for some guys. At the moment, I'm at the age where my mom is trying to find me a guy/help me find a guy. It's quite annoying.

I think buying yourself a diamond ring is no different than buying any other item of jewelry. It is not a sign that you are desperate. Some people are single by choice. Does that mean they should never own a diamond ring if they want one? No. If you want it, and you can afford it, go for it.

No, there's nothing wrong with buying jewelry for yourself. I worked in a jewelry store and came across all sorts of people who enjoy buying if for themselves. I always wanted to buy a right-hand diamond ring for myself. If you can afford it, why not?
I wouldn't call that desperate. Finding any man on the block to buy you one would be desperate.

when someone asks where you got the ring, you can be proud to answer that you treated yourself to it. It is a right hand ring, not an engagement ring. Remind your mother that it shows you are a strong, independant woman, which men find very attractive! It might get her off your back.

no your not wrong~ alot of women buy themselves rh diamonds~ it just shows you love yourself & you dont need someone else to buy it for you~ if you were looking for a man just to buy you the ring then yes would be desperate, but what your doing is a symbol of a strong independant woman that doesnt need a man in her life to be happy
