One thing we need to do as Christians is surrender. Give him all the things you can't change in your life, and ask His Holy Spirit to take those desires from you. This is not a one time thing, it's something we need to do daily.
Answer these questions to yourself: 1) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God? 2) Do you believe that in order to have eternal life, Jesus Christ had to become sin in order that God the Father could judge it? 3) Do you believe that Jesus Christ suffered and died for your sins? 4) Do you believe that He was buried and rose again on the third day? 5) Do you believe that because of what He did for you, that you can ask for His forgiveness and He will remember your sins no more? If you believe in these things, then tell Him that you do and ask Him to be the Lord of your life. Tell Him that you want His Holy Spirit to teach you, guide you, and help you in your walk with Him.
I pray you will have the joy and peace in knowing that you have been born again. Read the Bible everyday, asking the Holy Spirit to give you understanding of the scriptures. Pray everday, asking Him to help you with those things you cannot do on your own.
I will be praying for you too! God bless you!!!
Lovingly,
Virginia

Denise,
God loves you and wants you to be restored into a relationship with Him. First off, you sound sincere about your desire to turn your life around, but i can tell you honestly that it is impossible to do it on your own. You must have God working through you. Only He can cahnge you. It doesn't work the other way around; that you get your life together and once you are good enough, God will accept you. No, you must first turn to God and then He will slowly (or perhaps not so slowly) turn your life around. You said yourself that int he past, you have not been serious when seeking forgiveness. That is the first step. You must believe in your heart, not just in your head, that Jesus died for your sins and that He wants to save YOU. He wants to, i assure you, but you must first truly beleive. The Bible says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. So, when you ask for forgiveness and invite Jesus into your heart, you must first beleive the words that you say and also beleive that Jesus will actually do for YOU what He says He will. You seem sincere from your question, so I think you've come to a breaking point in your life where you are ready to actually mean what you say. I'd also suggest that you start to regularly attend a Bible believing church and to get connected to several more mature Christians that can help you along the way. I hope this helps. God bless.

The best thing to do is to resist your urges. When you want to spend, pray really hard about it. You would feel so much better if you spent the money helping needy people. Try spending the same amount of money on some groceries and taking them to the single mom down the street with the 6 kids and then you'll know how good giving feels. Perhaps then you will become "obsessed with" helping others. God will bless you for doing this more than you could ever begin to imagine!

You look like you need serious medical solution.
No one can save you but yourself. You can be born again, converted, and adopt another religion, but ultimately you got to fess up to the problems and change your behavior.
Forget what happened in the past, start a new day by not doing things you know you should not do.
May god bless you.

Try to get your spending under control. Set yourself a budget ...what you need to pay out...then divide what is left into savings and spendings. If you can sort this out , you will feel a little better about yourself.
Try saying thank you to God for the things that are good in your life, even if it is just for a sunny day and a chat with a good friend.
try talking to someone at a church or place of worship...just tell them what you have said here.

Ah, but your transformation is nearly complete, Denise. because I have died in Christ I no longer live but Christ lives in me - it is the turning of your desire toward truly wanting to be a new creation, to become a channel for God's love, that makes all the difference.
I do not believe in the Calvinist assertion that some people God doesn't want. God is available to all and his grace is freely given. There are no Elect. It is simply up to us to accept what iis on offer.
How do we do that, how do we change?
Your beliefs are already correct. Praying the sinner's prayer and asking for "jesus to come into your heart" and so on are good ideas, those things are for you, though. When you empty out all the pain and fear and are broken like you are, the Holy Spirit naturally moves into that void which is left and begins the healing process for you. Pray - not because he needs your invitation to be in words, he already knows you're inviting him, but because you need to affirm for yourself that he is entering into your very being.
Spending addiction is the primary affliction of affluenza, the consumer cultura that has over your lifetime inflicted pain and dissatisfaction in you to get you to buy more stuff, that you will be happy and accepted and attractive if only you have this or that. It redefines our wealth in terms of products. Rather, our wealth is each other. It is the relationships that connect us, that support us. When our money is going to support others we are more connected to our true soul. I recommend you read The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist. It will help you move beyond this problem.
The stress and pressure of modern life is also something many of us struggle with. Often we get dumped on and have no one on whom to dump or are unwilling. We don't empathize with ourselves, we don't act out of spirit energy, we snap and hurt others trying to protect ourselves from the pain as if we were cornered animals. For that I recommend reading Wayne Dyer's The Power of Intention and Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication.
I hope I've made it clear by now taht your problems will no simply dry up when Jesus moves in. Rather, that rebirth of spirit makes it possible to move forwarda nd improve ourselves. But the hard work is still ours to do.
Welcome to the Christian life! Love and peace be with you.

God will save you! Faith is trusting God's word- it is not a feeling. If you believe Christ died to pay for your sins and rose again- you are saved!
Now, there is the matter of growing- which is where you have been struggling. Read the Bible daily and pray. Fellowship with other believers. Meet with a Pastor for counseling or have him refer you to a good counselor- or just do Bible study with another mature Christian who can encourage and exhort you.
You are in my prayers!

You believe the gospel,,good....call on the name of the Lord and ask him to save you, heWILL....if you have ever done this, then you need the Holy Spirit....everything you've mentioned can summed up in this " a lack of the fruits of the Holy Spirit..galatians 5 :22.....
Luk 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
ask him for the Holy Spirit...God WILL give you the power to conquer these strongholds!!

There is no one who cannot be saved all you must do is seek him..... He is at the door knocking, all you have to do is make a leap of faith and open the door....
The bible tells us that Jesus' blood cleanses us from ALL sin.
Romans 3:23-26
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
